Sadiq Suleiman Umar (3SU), ahead of the much-anticipted party primaries. Senator Sadiq, who arrived in the company of high-powered dignitaries from the Kwara Central District, received a rowdy welcome from overwhelming APC members, as he exchanged pleasantries with the leadership of APC Elders Caucus, Stakeholders from across the fifty-two (52) political wards, and four LGAs in the district, including leaders of thought, who all graced the historic gathering. UPDATE: The Senator Representing Kwara North Senatorial District, Sen @SenSadiqUmar has officially declared his gubernatorial ambition today.

It is funny when people talk about the infrastructural gap in Kwara North without context. The size of Baruten and Kaiama LGAs alone with ((16,720 km²) is almost the size of Anambra, Imo, and Ebonyi States combined. kwarastate.gov.ng/government/lga…. Even looking at it from another angle. It is bigger than the entire Ogun State with (16,400 km²) nipc.gov.ng/nigeria-states… As a matter of fact, the first asphalt road in Baruten LGA was done by Gov @RealAARahman in 2020. In addition is also the almost completed 33km Ilesha Baruba-Gwanara road. He also facilitated over 200km of road The roads which have attained various stages of completion include; Kosubosu-Kaiama-Bode Saadu (130km); Bacita-Shonga-Lafiagi (83km); and Okuta-Bukuro Road, which connects the state to the Benin Republic (32km). These roads were originally designed by the Gov @RealAARahman in 2019 and lobbied his ally @asr_rabiu of BUA to get it financed upon the issuance of the Executive Order 007 by late PMB. The rest they said his history. This is to add that almost all the roads in Kwara North are FG roads, despite this, amongst other factors, this administration has done a lot in building roads in Kwara North. The current Senator @SenSadiqUmar, in his modest way has also facilitated several road projects too to complement what the state is doing. We should also remember that Kwara wasn't in created in 2019. What happened in the years before? How cam there no be a single asphalt road in whole of Baruten for about 56 years? And you expect us not to reference the dynasty responsible for this failure? The truth is we are not where we want to be but it is wide departure from where Kwara used to be in the past.

Let’s not reduce serious political moments to speculation and distractions. The focus should be on his message, his record, and what he brings to the table. Interesting times ahead. Let every aspirant step forward and make their case boldly.

Beyond logistics, his message isn’t meant for Kwara North alone. His people already know him, and they’ve tested his leadership. The declaration is about engaging the entire state.

There’s been a lot of noise about Senator Sadiq Suleiman choosing Ilorin for his declaration instead of his political base in Kwara North. Let’s be honest, Ilorin is the state capital. It’s where Kwarans from every zone, ward, and background live, work, and do business.

I actively supported and campaigned for Buhari/CPC in 2011. But I knew he was not going to win. Few weeks to election, I stopped to buy recharge card at a place in Ajah. I saw some guys - including one named Taofeek - discussing politics. I joined them. To my shock, none of them knew there was any candidate as Buhari. Few weeks to election. In Lagos. They didn't know there was a candidate called Buhari. They were of voting age. Meanwhile, Buhari was pulling crowds at campaigns in the North. And on some sections of social media (eg Nairaland). I had to pick my pen and write this article ar the time. An Adamu in Kano whose worldview is shaped by what he saw in Kano would have thought Buhari was going to win that election. But a Taofeek in Lagos didn't even know there was a Buhari contesting, not to talk of an Emeka in Ogwuashi Uku. You can't win a presidential election without national spread. If you use your own environment to judge, you are mistaking. This was also why violence erupted in some parts of the North after 2011 election result was announced when the Adamus used their environment to think that was how everywhere was for Buhari and felt Buhari was rigged out when the result was announced and he didn't win. This is also the problem I have with those that kept saying PO won the 2023 elections. There were places in Kebbi or Katsina where the mention of Peter Obi, few days to that 2023 election, they would ask you whether he was a footballer. People don't get these things. People use popularity within their immediate environment or social media to conclude presidential elections result. I am not your problem. I am only telling you how presidential election is won in Nigeria. You can keep insulting me.
