.@UtahOGM working on the Kenilworth Mine fire burning east of Helper in the Book Cliffs. The fire has been burning for years but recently started producing smoke plumes. Crews began work on sealing off ventilation points in late November. “The smoke is toxic it has only a couple of percent oxygen in it," said Steve Fluke (Utah OGM). "It’s mostly carbon dioxide, carbon monoxide, it has even hydrogen sulfate which is a deadly gas so really people need to stay away from the area.”

@BenWinslow @UtahOGM @fox13 @UtahOGM is it standard procedure to wait to notify the public for two whole business days of a fire burning in a coal mine during wildfire season? Seems suspiciously like there was a race to try and cover it up. Something tells me this ones not gonna get put out...

If heading out to recreate this Memorial Day weekend, watch out for abandoned mines. Old mines can be covered by sagebrush, old boards, etc and difficult to see. Mines can be intriguing but can contain dangerous gases, unstable structures, and explosives. #stayoutstayalive

Deputy Director Dana Dean was awarded the John E. Willson Distinguished Alumni Award from the U of U’s Mining Engineering Program. She is the first female awardee since its creation in 2000. She won in 2021 but due to Covid, didn’t receive the award in person until now.

But according to Corey Shuman's message, we're now told volunteer searchers were at Iron Side and discovered the vandalism the weekend after Josh Powell flew into Utah, which would mean around Jan. 30, 2010. About three weeks after West Valley detectives visited Iron Side. Hmmm.

The police teamed with @UtahOGM at the end of December and in January, 2010 began cataloging and visiting hundreds of mines in proximity to PET that Josh Powell might plausibly have accessed.
