I often think of how different my life would look like if my parents had never left communist Cuba. Instead of lives plagued by misery and fear, my sister and I have been afforded a chance at the American Dream: the opportunity to vote for our leaders, pursue our chosen careers, and practice our faith. Today’s a reminder of how blessed we are to call the greatest nation on Earth, home. I am forever indebted to this country, and I pray that God may always bless and keep her. Happy Birthday, USA. I couldn’t possibly love you more.

Even on his first few days in Congress, my friend Lindsey Graham wanted to change this place for the better. He never stopped fighting — either for South Carolina or the American people. He wanted to keep this country safe. He wanted to keep our elections secure. And he wanted Congress to serve the people who sent us here. The best way we could honor him is to keep fighting for the country he loved and fighting to restore and reform the institution he gave over three decades of his life to.

Here’s why people in both parties don’t want to use or lose the filibuster: control. Hiding behind the 60 vote threshold and the cloture rule makes it easier to control the chamber, control debate, and control the schedule. That way there are no surprises and everyone gets to leave town after lunch on Thursday without fail. Open debate, open amendments, and majority threshold make things less predictable. And that makes comfortable people uncomfortable. If we want to secure our elections and pass the rest of the America First agenda, we’re going to need to shake some things up.

New York: it's hot out there, and the power grid is working overtime to keep us cool. Set your AC to 78 degrees, turn off lights/electronics you're not using, and unplug what you can. Our City is doing its part too: maintaining the 78 degrees rule in our buildings, dimming/turning off our lights during peak electricity demand, asking private partners to do the same, and powering down non-essential equipment. A stable grid means the AC stays on, and lives are saved. Let's ease demand — and get through the heat — together.
