VFW National Commander Carol Whitmore and National Legislative Service Associate Director Joy Craig recently concluded visits to @USAGHumphreys and @51stFW in South Korea. VFW mission trips like these ensure the concerns of U.S. troops overseas are heard, influence the VFW’s advocacy efforts at home on military readiness, transition and quality of life, and also reinforce the VFW’s commitment to supporting its members abroad. Evolving tour policies are bringing more families to Korea and increasing demand for critical resources, so they met with @EighthArmyKorea leadership and service members to discuss housing, schools and spouse employment, with troops raising concerns about transportation, connectivity costs and access to on-base services. To support separating troops, a VFW Accredited Service Officer will now be onsite at Osan Air Base assist with Benefits Delivery at Discharge.

VFW National Commander Carol Whitmore and Auxiliary National President Lois Callahan are on the move in Taiwan, visiting cultural landmarks, learning about the heritage of Taiwan’s indigenous communities and meeting with the Veterans Affairs Council’s Tainan Veterans Service Office - all to see how Taiwan delivers community-based support to its veterans at every stage of life. The delegation also toured Kaohsiung Veterans General Hospital and its affiliated Veterans Home, where integrated medical care, long-term support and community services work together to ensure continuity of care. These visits highlight the powerful role of culture, community and comprehensive care in supporting veterans throughout their lives.

The delegation closed the second day by meeting with members of VFW Post 9957, led by Post Commander Tony Hu, connecting with local members and discussing the challenges facing overseas posts.

Days one and two in Taiwan are in the books! VFW National Commander Carol Whitmore and Auxiliary National President Lois Callahan visited the Veterans Affairs Council (VAC) Vocational Training Center, where they met with leadership to learn how Taiwan prepares veterans for civilian careers through workforce training and employment counseling. They also had the opportunity to meet with Taiwan’s VAC Minister to discuss shared priorities in veteran care, highlighting services that support more than 700,000 veterans and their families.
