Terrebonne a beaucoup changé. Le centre de Terrebonne est devenu un petit Laval. Il y a 25 ans, La Plaine, c’était la campagne. Aujourd’hui, c’est du trafic sans fin. Dans certains quartiers de Terrebonne, les enclaves de grosses cabanes se sont aussi installées. En 8 ans, les services de francisation se sont multipliés, du primaire à la formation générale des adultes, en passant par le cégep. Plusieurs personnes immigrantes francophones ont aussi choisi cette ville de banlieue, plus douce et plus abordable que Laval. Terrebonne est devenue un exemple concret de la régionalisation de l’immigration. Je le vois sur le terrain chaque semaine : la réalité n’est plus la même. Dans les écoles aussi. Une connaissance enseignante me disait que, dans sa classe à La Plaine, il n’y a plus d’élèves québécois de souche. C’est pas un reproche. C’est un fait. Mais on se rencontre où? Au secondaire, une grande partie des familles québécoises se tourne vers le privé. Résultat : des milieux qui se côtoient de moins en moins. Des villes qui commencent à se poser des questions sur le vivre-ensemble. Un peu en retard. On habite les mêmes villes, mais on ne vit pas ensemble. Et sans contact, il n’y a pas d’intégration. La diversité est là pour rester. La question, c’est ce qu’on en fait. Ce qu’on a vu à Laval est devenu la réalité, en quelques années, dans le 450. L’élection de Tatiana Auguste hier pour le Parti libéral n’a rien d’une anomalie. Si les partis ne s’ajustent pas, le Parti libéral risque de devenir le choix naturel du 450. On peut faire semblant, mais ce sont des faits. Sans contacts, les fossés seront de plus en plus abyssaux.
