Sabitlenmiş Tweet

4 years ago today (October 30, 2020) I took my last step and began to use a wheelchair. Recently someone asked me “Are you continually wheelchair bound?”. That inspired me to write this poem.
AM I BOUND?
©️Michael Moore
Am I bound because I use a chair
Feet cannot walk
So I roll everywhere?
Am I bound because I can’t stand up straight
Muscles too weak
So I sit in line to wait?
Am I bound because I can’t run a race
Legs don’t work
So I roll to keep pace?
Am I bound because I can’t climb a stair
Each tread too high
So I take an elevator there?
Am I bound because I can’t drive a car
Gave up my licence
But a van gets me far?
Or…
Are you bound and stuck in your view
That disability’s bad
And only able will do?
Do the words that you use always favour walk
Centre ability
Whenever you talk?
Do you see just a chair and nothing it can do
Not the freedom it gives
Like a car or a shoe?
Am I bound? My answer is no
I’m not a prisoner
The chair not my foe.
So…
Watch as I roll and still get around.
Witness my journey
And know I’m not bound.
