Suave, my friend. He has to do that diplomatically, but you're right. He doesn't realize the downside to religious absolutism. But think about it. He can't take sides. Don't look to him to take a firm stand against anybody. He can't alienate anybody. Look to President Trump for how to handle the conflict. This pope seems to be busy being Christlike by loving everybody, affirming their humanity. He's not doing conflict resolution, nor is he qualified for it. He's not going to disrespect the ambassador unless the ambassador commits a faux pas right in front of him, and even then his response may be nuanced.
