@GPrime85 It’s so funny. It looked great, it didn’t look woke; it is great, it isn’t slightly woke. Those YouTubers were like a bull to a red rag. If they just used their brains for half a second, they wouldn’t be in this mess.

@DarrenPlymouth It’ll be their neighbour’s Ring or security camera. The original footage shall be of a very wide lens, which covers nearly the whole drive. When that very wide angle is cropped, it looks like a longer lens, which makes it look like phone footage. An easy mistake to make.

This is the moment the Ann Widdecombe murder suspect is arrested. The question that is not being asked enough is: Who is filming, why is there always a neighbour at the window ready? Presumably all filming we have seen of this individual is by the same person. Just an observation.

@EricTropicalTX @MFer_Jones_ @PageauJonathan @Cernovich Trust me, I’m not frit on white ethnographic replacement. But I can hold multiple thoughts at once, and think that the cancellation campaign against The Odyssey is a philistine moral panic. If you step outside of the culture wars, Nolan’s decisions make complete artistic sense.

First thoughts on The Odyssey. There is a scene at the very beginning of the film in which, in the absence of his father, Telemachus is being trained by the blind Eumaeus, Odysseus’s loyal servant. Eumaeus warns that the reason Telemachus is constantly being bested by his sparring partner is that his defense is too quick. He must move more slowly, open his chest, invite the attack, and use his opponent’s momentum against him. In the spirit of Odysseus, deep trickery is at work in this film. Don’t let the apparent compromises fool you. The Odyssey is an absolute triumph. It is made with a profound love for the source material, filled with deep pathos: the return of the father, the elevation of the son, and the restoration of proper order despite all the sins perpetrated by the guardians of that order. It is a film about the end of one world and the beginning of another; about remembrance, return, and the perpetuation of an order after a long wandering through chaos. It’s The Odyssey.

@PortoValhe @Hurricanehugo13 So he’s now shackled to the demands of helmet wearing, bean counting, autistic nitpickers? Even if taking artistic liberties improves his ability to communicate the film’s subject matter? This is exactly why no one should go to nerds for social commentary.

@PortoValhe Your comment is internally inconsistent. Anyone with good reading comprehension can see why. There’s a difference between tactile authenticity and historical authenticity. This whole Odyssey cancellation campaign is autistic brain rot.

@MFer_Jones_ @PageauJonathan @Cernovich […] By introducing Norse and Roman design elements, and by including subsaharans, he’s expanding the epic scope of the known world and making it timelessly Western, rather than rooted to one period.

@MFer_Jones_ @PageauJonathan @Cernovich […] means he is going to protect the core meaning behind The Odyssey, but have certain stylistic choices reflect us. This is a legitimate artistic choice because one of the themes is the mutation of legend into myth across time and peoples. […]

@RupertLowe10 Capital punishment was abolished against the public’s will in 1965. In 1960 it had 80% support. Today it has 50-55% support. Between now and then it has had approximately 65% support. Ann strongly believed in its moral necessity. We must honour her with a referendum.

The death of Ann Widdecombe is deeply distressing. I do not know the full circumstances or motivations, but it looks to be an act of appalling and wicked evil. I am calling on Parliament and the Home Office to provide MPs who have received credible death threats receive proper state-funded security. That absolutely includes Nigel Farage, Reform MPs and any other politician who has been threatened in a way that is beyond the usual social media insults. I myself receive countless death threats, and arrests have been made because of those. Personally, I have found Parliament’s response to be unacceptably relaxed about it all - it seems Reform feel the same. I agree. I also believe that the temperature of political ‘debate' needs to be lowered. Of course there will be robust disagreement, and personal insults will inevitably be dragged into that, but too often, it’s too much. In Britain, there is a line. Or at least there should be. In the run up to the Makerfield by-election, the Daily Mail ran two front pages about Restore Britain in a row. On the Sunday, they linked us to a ‘white supremacy’ summit. On Monday, the headline labelled us as the home for ‘neo-nazis’, quoting somebody from Reform - Reform’s London Mayoral candidate also previously stated we were neo-nazi. Various other outrageous insults have been thrown at our party - from Reform, Green, Labour and other political figures. This is not a healthy way of conducting political debate and it certainly fires people up in a reckless way. But the point remains. Any MP, from any party, who is subject to such foul abuse and threats should be protected by the state. Britain is not the same country as it was 20 years ago, even 10. There are a great number of very dangerous people living among us who want us dead. Those who put themselves in serious harm’s way through engaging with the political process should receive proper security - I include Nigel Farage in that. I will be looking to work with cross-party colleagues to implore the Home Office to reassess the current security arrangements for all MPs. It needs to change.

@ZiaYusufUK This lets them off. There only two options. They are the ones with learning disabilities, or they lied. I say they lied. Every blinking sign pointed towards a targeted murder. How dare they try and cover up the motive of the killer. They have utter disdain for human life.

🚨 Jonathan Hall KC, the government’s independent counter-terrorism adviser has condemned the conduct of the police investigating Ann’s murder. He said the police would have been “much better to be simply open-minded and say to the public something that’s true, we don’t know what’s going on, rather than appearing to rule something out and then having to reverse their position when new facts emerge.” It was in fact the POLICE that were “speculating”, feeding some psychopathic elements in the media who rejoiced in attacking Nigel and Reform as we mourned our friend. Disgusting.

@Nolberto099 @GoodwinMJ @Trudelpops I’m not a Reform supporter, but Nigel Farage was not only right: the police lied. He used his common sense and stood up for his slain friend, whilst enduring a media smear campaign and fake quotes from her family. The record needs to be set straight.

@GoodwinMJ @Trudelpops I am a Reform voter but Matt you sometimes don't help us. Just let things take it's natural course next day or so rather than jumping at "Nigel was right". It really looks like you are doing political points scoring with Ann's death. It's a really bad look. Makes Reform look bad.

@daltonleepruitt Another defender of The Odyssey who’s entirely missing the point. He didn’t do it to look cool. He did it because it’s texturally relevant to one of the film’s main themes — the mutation of legend through those who supersede the original events.

The Odyssey isn’t historically accurate because Christopher Nolan is in the business of making shit that looks cool, not teaching history. You might be confusing a filmmaker for a historian because you are stupid.

@Keir_Starmer Boring. 🥱 Whether it’s true or not, I simply can’t care anymore. I’m fatigued. We all are. If our capacity for tolerance were an oil reserve, it would be Venezuela. If our tolerance’s remaining capacity were an economy, it would be Venezuela. Muslims have drained us.

Shocking news that Counter Terrorism Police are investigating a credible, serious threat targeted at an Islamic event in Suffolk. Thanks to the quick action taken by police and the organisers, nobody was hurt. My message is clear: I will not tolerate any attacks on our Muslim communities, or any form of anti-Muslim hatred.

@AndrewK2343 @DixieNormu3s @polemios That’s a reasonable point. But if part of the intention behind The Odyssey is to communicate how legends develop over time and across cultures, I’d argue it becomes artistically permissible to blend the artefacts of later cultures with the actual culture the poem emerged from.

@VVI92104 @DixieNormu3s @polemios Also for clarity the oldest written fragment of the odyssey is from 250BC while Mulan traces its roots to only 557 AD. The Odyssey has been passed on through writings for far longer than it was oral.

Ah yes, King Odysseus of Ithaca sailing the wine-dark Aegean in a literal 9th-century Viking longship. The famous Scandinavian-Mycenaean shipbuilding co-operative of 1200 BC.
DiscussingFilm@DiscussingFilm

‘THE ODYSSEY’ had one sequence filmed in such stormy conditions on a 115ft wooden longship in the sea that many actors started vomiting. Nolan then said — “would you mind if we get the vomiting on camera?” (Source: telegraph.co.uk/films/2026/07/…)

@AndrewK2343 @DixieNormu3s @polemios Of course it does. But it’s also our culture. So we can tell it in the way that reflects us. Just like how English thespians can play Roman Senators, because Roman culture doesn’t belong exclusively to the Italians anymore.

@zarahussain999 @ShabanaMahmood @TerrorismPolice Karma’s a bitch, but it’s not a cancer. Good Muslims should police their own community better. The people who have to live alongside them can only take so much. If your twin beats your dog every day, and the dog then bites you, do you blame the dog?

.@TerrorismPolice are leading an investigation into a credible threat to those attending the UK Ijtima festival this weekend. I thank Suffolk Police, Counter Terrorism Policing, and the organisers for their swift and effective response that undoubtably saved lives. Twelve individuals have now been arrested. I know this is deeply concerning news for British Muslims. We must stand against hatred and we must unite around our shared belief in a country that is open, generous and tolerant to all our communities.
