🚨 Mars in 30 Days? Russia’s Plasma Engine Is Changing Space Travel Forever Imagine reaching Mars in just one month, instead of the usual 6–9 months. That’s exactly what Russian scientists are claiming with a new plasma-powered rocket engine that sounds like something straight out of science fiction. Developed by Rosatom scientists, this engine doesn’t burn fuel like traditional rockets. Instead, it uses electric power and plasma. Hydrogen particles are electrically charged and then pushed out using powerful magnetic fields, reaching mind-blowing speeds of 100 km per second. For comparison, today’s chemical rockets push exhaust at only about 4.5 km per second. Why does this matter? Speed. A lot of it. Faster travel means astronauts spend far less time exposed to dangerous cosmic radiation, one of the biggest risks of deep-space missions. Shorter journeys also mean lower costs and fewer health problems for crews. A working laboratory prototype already exists, and Rosatom has built a massive space-like testing chamber to simulate real conditions. The engine runs in short pulses, uses about 300 kilowatts of power, and can operate for over 2,400 hours—enough for a full Mars trip. While its thrust is small (around 6 newtons), it’s still the highest among similar plasma engines, allowing smooth acceleration and braking in space. The plan is simple: launch the spacecraft into orbit using normal chemical rockets, then switch on the plasma engine for the long interplanetary journey. Scientists believe a flight-ready version could be available by 2030, and the same technology could be used for robotic cargo ships moving between planets. If this plasma engine delivers on its promise, the question won’t be “Can humans go to Mars?” It will be “How soon do we leave?”🚀
