happy new year @valhalla community! 2024 was rough, but we’re still here and we'll keep marching forward. in 2024, we've played a lot of defense. in 2025, we'll stay locked in as community, play offense, and accelerate. we’ve never stopped building, and brick by brick, together we will build something great. 2025 is the year we take @valhalla to valhalla

in anticipation of ME/OpenSea's upcoming airdrop, liquidity is rotating back into NFTs. this has reignited questions (and concerns) around @valhalla, so I wanted to provide an update on what we've built and explicitly define how we're creating value for our community. 🧵

the @valhalla keyboard packaging is almost complete and ready to be shipped to Belgium for final assembly! each of those boxes represents one keyboard, so you can get an idea of the scale of each one. we're currently bottlenecked by the assembly of the keyboard internals (PCB sandwich) at another factory, but hope to get this resolved soon. excited to finally get this into the hands of the @valhalla community. 🙂

it's taken a while, but after 5-6 iterations of box samples for the @valhalla ARTIFACT-01, we've approved the final version. production (including the foam inserts not seen here) will take about a month before being shipped off for final assembly in Belgium.

this week, we had a constructive call with the @valhalla community on discord regarding the mechanics of our upcoming battle pass. we identified three important objectives: 1. establishing a clear alignment between the community and the core team while quantifying upcoming rewards. 2. learning from past mistakes and adjusting rewards based on rarity, including those deemed rare by the community, such as dark mechs and balaclavas. 3. providing bonus rewards for holders who endured difficult times, likely through a snapshot. we recognize that simply implementing the battle pass is not enough to reignite interest in the project. we’ll need to demonstrate meaningful progress in the products we’ve been building (@joinstacked) and ensure they meet user needs. this will be measured by metrics such as monthly user growth, TVL, and on-chain transactions over the next few months. we also acknowledge the significant challenges we face. NFTs are currently in a bear market, and there’s a considerable opportunity cost in joining our community when there are potential 100x meme coin opportunities. either way, we believe the new battle pass is a foundational piece of “community infrastructure” that creates long-term alignment between holders and the core team. @owen_roe is currently designing v1 of the battle pass, and we’ll be sharing the designs in discord for the community's review before implementation. we expect the new battle pass to roll out by the end of the month, and we’ll be sure to remind everyone to activate it. thanks for reading!

hello! here are some recent developments re: @valhalla. – new battle pass - we’ve expedited our timeline for building on-chain products that will yield rewards for our community. based on community feedback, we’ll also be completely redesigning and engineering our battle pass from the ground up. in our prior iteration, we allowed holders to mint their rewards because we believed it embodied digital ownership (and thus the spirit of crypto). in retrospect, the experiment was not a net benefit for our holders; portability of rewards removed the incentive/lock-in for users to hold after they minted their crates. because of this, we’ve studied the NFT majors that have successfully implemented something similar, and we’ll use their structure as a foundation. we realize that the lack of clarity around crates was also a negative contributing factor. originally, the crates were supposed to drop materials that could be combined to create a second collection. unfortunately, given market conditions and our position at the time, we ultimately determined we didn’t have the market interest to successfully support a second collection. with that said, all season 1 rewards will still be honored and rolled into season 2. in terms of timeline, I estimate we’re 4 weeks out before we release. we will be actively sharing preliminary mechanics/designs in our discord if you’d like to contribute to the feature. thanks to @0xlang_ and @jackkk for bumping this for me. – keyboard - yes, the keyboard is massively delayed but it’s still in the works and will be delivered. the tl;dr is that our boards have been stuck in queue for 2 months at the anodizer (prevents the metal from rusting). our manufacturing partners have incredibly high quality standards, so it’s been tough trying to make compromises in quality in exchange for speed. the keyboard is likely still 2 months away, but given our delays, I’m hesitant to commit to a date because our team does not have a direct ability to expedite the process. once complete, we intend to give away a significant portion of the keyboards to our community for free. the team and I remain excited about getting the boards into the hands of our community, and we’ll discuss how the lottery will take place (taking into account type, quantity held, etc). – I appreciate the patience our holders have shown to me and the team. I remain excited about the products that we’re about to release in Q3/Q4, and we’ll be sure to post updates that are more frequent and concise than this one. We visited Belgium to interview @maxvoltar, the creative force behind the ARTIFACT-01. If you haven’t met him, you’ve most certainly met his work. He designed Instagram, and his meticulous eye for detail and commitment to craftsmanship are evident in every aspect of the board.
