I was hungry, but you passed a bill that cut funding for food stamps so billionaires could get more tax breaks.
I was thirsty, but you removed environmental protections and left me without clean water.
I was a stranger, but ICE agents arrested me and put me in a concentration camp surrounded by alligators.
I was sick, but you cut billions of dollars from Medicaid and I couldn’t get the healthcare I needed.
I was in prison, but you left me there in unconscionable conditions because you made money off of it.
Whatever you did to the least of these, my siblings, you did to me.
(how I think Jesus would have phrased Matthew 25 if he was preaching in America right now)

@AbortionChat I have zero patience left for people who derail this very fundamental human rights issue into “when does life begin.” I don’t know but it doesn’t matter. No one should be compelled to use their body against their will to sustain someone else’s life.
English

Correct. And children are born.
Whew, glad we cleared that up.

@DukeErdu_ @_nomadic_soul No one should be forced by the government to use their body against their will to sustain someone else’s life. Even if fetuses had legal personhood that still wouldn’t change. Would you consider it acceptable to strap someone down and cut out their organ to save another life?
English

@_nomadic_soul I agree with you, but also the right to choose to have a safe and legal abortion is an autonomy issue. When pregnant people are forced to carry against their will *for any reason* they don’t have autonomy.
English

@redheadranting @legaltweetz @BevJacksonAuth This is an extremely cruel and unnecessary thing to say to someone you don’t even know sharing their determination to overcome the obstacles in their way
You need to examine what it is in *your* own behavior that compels you to attempt to cut people down this, it’s not healthy
English

@legaltweetz @BevJacksonAuth Of course you have a victim mentality. This whole post is about how you are a victim. Thing is, I bet there's more to the story, I'm going to bet your behavior played a huge role in all the bad things that happened to you - which is the way it is for everyone else in the world.

At barely 18 years old, I was kicked out of my house for being gay. I was given no warning. Before I went to work that day, I broke my key in the door lock. When I got off of work, I called my mom to let me in & she wouldn’t. After many times of being hung up on, she finally put 2 garbage bags of my stuff on the porch. That’s how I left the house and ended up on my own. With garbage bags of rumpled clothes.
I was a brand new freshman in college at the time & I ended up having to drop out. I had to learn how to take care of myself at a young age and learn how to pay bills. I had to work all the time at the pizza place I worked at to survive & afford a place to live.
2 years later, I finally made my way back to college. I worked very hard and also worked several jobs at the time to be able to afford it. I ended up graduating in 4 years with honors.
Disaster would strike again 6 months after I graduated. I had a house fire that destroyed all of my stuff and left me homeless for 6 months. That put my plans for law school on hold indefinitely. I lost everything again.
2 years later, I ended up getting into law school. I would study for the LSAT while waiting tables and bartending. Always having my LSAT book at work and working through the logic problems during down time. I worked from 4-4 a.m. 6-7 days a week back then. But I pulled it off anyway.
I’ve had a rough ride in my life. I’ve had to work very hard to get where I’m at with many setbacks that were out of my control. I would lose everything again 6 years into my legal career when I became disabled. I came back from that too.
My point is that I am an incredibly strong person and have endured a lot of hardship. But I never stop trying to overcome it. I’ve never let it stop me from my ultimate goals.
If transphobes and TERFs think they are going to come at me, they should think again. I’m a very formidable opponent. I’ve had a lot of unthinkable things happen to me and I survived them all and came out stronger each time. When I write the book about my life one day, maybe I’ll finally make sense to the world.

@Rightsof_Man @emilykmay 😆😆😆 I wish it was a video game!
Completely dehumanizing, it’s super gross. And virginity is a social contract anyway.
English

@VanityWren @emilykmay Thank for succinctly stating this. I agree 100%
I remember the first time someone mentioned "body count", and my first thought was "What video game is he referring to?"
Then when I figured out what he was talking about, my stomached turned. It is so dehumanizing.
English

yall i was so insulated, even though i went to a state school for college, i genuinely didn't know that basically everyone was having sex except me.
onyxx@ihyonyxx
Having 0 body count at 20 is a big red flag
English

And your willful ignorance will not become my new moral code.
Having to exist in the same country as trans people does not constitute a violation of your rights or an infringement on your autonomy, you small minded bigot.

@Rightsof_Man @emilykmay Anyone who assigns moral value, positive or negative, to the number of people someone else has had sex with is sending up red flags x100
English

@emilykmay I grew up with sex ed in the 90's. Many of lost our virginity before 20, but it was never a red flag.
I would saying referring to your sexual partners as "body count" is dehumanizing and a red flag unto itself.
English

@emilykmay @coulterculture @SouthwardVernon Regardless of the relationship politics aspects, the man would also have to come from A LOT of money if you want that lifestyle so there’s that.
English

@coulterculture @SouthwardVernon but he ultimately has to pursue you in this scenario and want this. you can be the kind of person who wants this life and it doesn't mean that a man will pick you.

BREAKING: The House just rejected a bill that could have given the Trump administration the power to crush dissent and go after political enemies.
This is a victory for all our right to speak truth to power.
ACLU@ACLU
As soon as tomorrow, the House will vote on a bill that would give the incoming Trump administration a new tool they could use to stifle free speech, target political opponents, and punish groups that disagree with them. theintercept.com/2024/11/10/tru…
