This rhetorical strategy allows foreigners such as the Congoelse lady to exploit a struggle they did not inherit - like Apartheid or colonial dispossession - in order to gain moral authority when critiquing other foreigners, such as digital nomads in this context. The ultimate hypocrisy of the entire segment is laughable. The most cynical part of this irony is that the anchoring is used as a shield against their own accountability. By claiming "us," African immigrants such as the Congolese lady exempt themselves from the very critique they level at digital nomads. They tend to seek benefits of being a guest while claiming the lived experiences of the local citizens. It’s a way of saying, "I am not a foreigner like the others; I am part of the struggle" when it's convenient (typical opportunism). Digital nomads and the Congolese lady are different sides of the same coin - two groups of outsiders who think they can claim a stake in a country that isn't theirs to define or possess.
