They had correctly booked him as an 'infant in seat'. They showed up at the airport with all valid documents, only to be told they couldn’t board, causing immense stress, especially with a baby involved.

Is there a good textbook with introductory causal inference material suitable for MPA students? Looking for something similar to the OpenIntro Stats book which covers descriptive statistics and regression analyses in an intuitive and applied fashion.

@a_peterman @poverty_action That’ll be the day, re: roles with power. Most orgs only pay lip service, most roles with power in global health are not just North but White-centric.

Fantastic effort by @poverty_action to decolonize their projects - other research orgs take note! But why stop at 60%? Shouldn't we be aiming for 100%? Also: Devil is in the details - I hope "include" means roles with power: PIs + Co-Is, not just tokens 👏🏾

@Josh_Merfeld @qatarairways I decided not to travel on @qatarairways again. On my last 14 hr flight from Doha to Seattle, 3 of 8/9 restrooms stopped functioning soon after takeoff off and remained closed, causing long lines for the rest. My seat armrest broke in flight.

I always heard good things about @qatarairways but they screwed up catering from ICN to Doha and my next flight is delayed by hours. I know things happen but 0/2 on my first shot at them.

@Josh_Merfeld The lounge at Doha was overcrowded whenever I have tried to go there (unless you’re in the business class one). There’s a terminal at Doha with greenery and a waterfall and open spaces to sit, looks similar to Changi. If you have 12 hours, I’d go spend some time there.

I have a 12-hour layover in Doha later this month. Is there anything to do other than sit in the lounge?

@KokkaChammam Good to know that worked, I was wondering if you perhaps chose to go via France! Honestly, I was so tired of the effort needed, I just gave up eventually. I would have had to take the 2-hr flight to SFO just for the appointment even if I had managed to get it.

Finally I gave up and wrote to the conference organizers to really think about changing their conference location in the future to a country that actually allows people to enter.

@KokkaChammam @VFSGlobal @ItalyinUK @InsideNatGeo @Ecrs2024 Italy is especially bad this year. I couldn’t get a visa for #IAFFE2024 in Rome, should’ve been there presenting yesterday. I decided to withdraw, felt that trying via another Schengen country was too onerous and insulting.

@a_peterman That is laudable, one of the few that actually practice what they preach! I am withdrawing from the IAFFE 2024 Rome Conference shortly, have been unable to get an Italian Schengen visa despite trying for months.

@lukusem In solidarity w/ co-authors who cannot get visas for many conf locations - I don't submit to EU/US locations * unless co-authors can go & in that case we try! Of course, I still end up attending a few each year bc of invitations or organized events - but try to minimize it!

@AlaskaAir Gate agent Gabriela and other gate agents at SeaTac airport were unable to check in my cousin for her flight AS 2096 Sea-Calgary today for *1.5 hours* even though she had all documents! She missed her flight because of your gate agents.

@sukhadatatke People who are being asked to answer such questions should just spend their money that month going to other countries instead, unless they have compelling family or other situations to visit this one.

The nerve to ask such a question on a six-month tourist visa application when for centuries this country made a career of entering territories it was not welcome in, looting and marauding them clean, while reducing masses of people to poverty and destitution. The nerve!
