@sallydaviesjr It's like LM's stepfather (84). Major brain trauma last Sept, still keeps falling over and is constantly disorientated. But he's deemed "not age-appropriate" for a CT scan. Really?

He's not even that old. A youthful 74. It happened AT A JAZZ FESTIVAL. Walking across a field with Madeline Bell. Probably has a more interesting life than the triage doctors marking him as non-urgent because there's no money and over 65 = practically dead anyway.

Nope. Just another doctor, this one saying er, we might have left this too long and it's now unfixable. Here are your options: spend the rest of your life one-armed, in terrible pain, or have a major operation to replace your entire shoulder, with a two-year recovery period.

Finally, after four weeks, got a date to fix my dad's badly dislocated shoulder – June 20th. Lovely. He didn't need to sleep or eat or wash before then anyway. Words cannot express how I miss living in a country with a decent health service.

@sallydaviesjr @VeniceExpert Mammograms in Spain are routinely every two years, smears every year. They call you, you don’t have to remind them. I’m not sure if this applies to the whole country.

I stayed with wonderful Giannina as a teenager. She rowed me round the canals in her boat: not a gondola... a wide-hulled rowing boat, to force gondoliers to make way for her!
