Topped the biggest #GrandArchiveTCG Ascent to date! Shoutout to those here and @TL_Chaobo especially. Playing the same deck the entire season paid off and thanks to Shawn, Peter & Christian for being there to always bounce ideas off and test! Still can’t believe I got here! 🫠

@Magemetax @MageTCG And I challenge you to reconsider your methods. You denigrate yourself and your project by advertising on posts about other TCGs and you denigrate yourself and your project by using AI.

I challenge you to look a little deeper. kickstarter.com/projects/elder… this is over a year and a half in production with passion, hard work, and real research guiding everything we do. Just because a few early opportunists tried to come in and make a quick buck doesn’t mean we’re here to do the same.

Seems like someone wasn't happy about the response to the Monster Hunter Lair drops. Not sure what to think of this. On one hand, responding to feedback is good. On the other, making a Lair drop so bad you need to pull the plug is pretty embarrassing. magic.wizards.com/en/news/announ…

@Magemetax @SaffronOlive @MageTCG With passion, hard work, and a fuckton of luck. AI bad and scary”? Nah, it’s a poison. Snake oil. A mental illness. You can justify it all you like, I’ve no interest in a product produced by people who lack a single creative cell in their body.

You realize every TCG in the industry uses AI, right? They hide their use, they use it to cut jobs, and push higher profits for shareholders. We decided if the big guys do it and hide it… what would happen if we brought on a team of real artists using it as a prototype tool to create a platform for artists of all backgrounds? I know AI bad and scary. But the truth is… how else could you afford to get a pro-tour grade product to market with a startup budget? Once you crack that code, I’d be humbled to hear your thoughts.

Echo pretty much the same sentiment that WotS is one of the devs that cherishes its players most but the price/supply in fledgling regions is very prohibitive If they can address that in some way (although I know its difficult given their relative size) they'd be unstoppable

My impressions of Grand Archive & Ascent Akihabara as a JP TCG-only player who learned the rules less than a week ago This’ll get a little long, but hope you enjoy the read! Some quick things about me so I don’t seem like a random Andy: - Play competitive TCGs for 13 years+ - Make videos and stream about TCGs for 10+ years, mainly Cardfight!! Vanguard - Commentated for 8+ years for various TCGs - Born and raised in Europe but been living in Japan for 3 years+ now I got invited to check out Ascent Akihabara by a couple of my friends that work at WotS since it’s in my neighborhood, and while I wasn’t really interested in the game I took them up on the offer since it’d be interesting to compare how the event is run compared to JP companies here. At that time, my impressions of GA were: - It’s a western game with JP game aesthetics - It’s insanely expensive - It’s very community driven and involved, but the JP community is fairly small in comparison so I didn’t feel enticed to try it 4 days prior to the Ascent, my friend @oceanbolt244 taught me the game and the rules seemed really intricate and unique, especially compared to a lot of the recent games popping up in (and out of) Japan - but looking at the prices of cards I couldn’t see myself investing, so I thought I’d vibe check the Ascent and see how I feel after. And I’m sure just by looking at my tweets from the last few days, you can see that vibe was immaculate. The biggest takeaway was that this company cares and invests in its players, and the pathways into the game are far more diverse than I expected. Prior to the event I heard about their competitive prizing and assumed it’s another game where that’s the main appeal, but there were so many other forms of competition with their own prizing I was shook: - Cosplay contents where attendants vote - Collection contests, where a theme is decided and players compete with their collections of that theme - Side events with major prizing - Other cute side events like card grading I didn’t join any of these and just played with the Re:Collection Merlin deck all day with friends, but just seeing the variety of events was something so novel. On top of that there were plushies, figures and art panels of the game’s characters, signing sessions by prominent illustrators, a whole fan artist alley where designing custom tokens is embraced, and I quickly realized how much the players love this game. If I had to compare it to a Japanese game, the closest is how Takara Tomy/Wizards handles Duel Masters here, where it feels very player-first and they offer events for people that don’t even play competitively, or just show up to have fun with their family or friends that might not play. This all happened at a time where I’ve been feeling disappointed in the direction and handling of my main game throughout this year, and seeing how WotS treats not only its players but artists, content creators, etc. was really inspirational. I got to speak to many Japanese and overseas players and I could tell that even for the local players that don’t speak English, this game is a communication tool that bridges those differences, which is something I care deeply about. This is the kind of game I’d love to contribute to as well, especially if I can help grow the Japanese scene. I vlogged a bunch throughout the weekend so that’ll come out soon, and Merlin’s aesthetic is everything I like so I’m afraid they got me LOL Thank you once again to the staff at WotS for inviting me, and to all the current and ex-Vanguard players that said hi! It was a very warm experience ☺️

As well as positive word of mouth! If the price and supply gets improved (and my personal nitpick of wanting more interesting foiling patterns on chases LOL) then genuinely I don't see why GA couldn't be slugging with the heavyweights

@sylidar Also, is there consideration for regional leaderboard based prizing? Top 100 NA/EU/SEA/OCE leaderboards separately from global Top 100?

@sylidar Aki gave giga EP; not that I’m complaining since it pushed me into top100 Omni 😅 I hope y’all can also support players who lack accessible regionals. As someone who can only attend 1-2 ascents a season (due to pto constraints) with no regionals in state, top100 is really tough

starting PTM season, the omnidex EP(event points) formula is being adjusted so that there is an additional diminishing factor starting at 500 EP awarded. gaining 750 EP would instead gain 595, and gaining 1500 EP would instead gain 741. this adjustment primarily affects events with over 200 players, and should encourage consistency at multiple big events throughout a season rather than one really large event.

@DifferentFight @angelo_rexy ReCo tend to be strong out of the box, but you do unfortunately still need dungeon guides and a divine relic and some other pieces to have a top 8 contending list. And some reco have landed in different elements from what they ship with. Guo Jia (Seiryu) in wind for example.

@angelo_rexy Yeah for me this is the biggest barrier too, especially when converted to yen I really hope they either bump the pull rates a bit or create tourney-ready starter decks like other TCGs have been as of late to help ease the entry for competitive

@gebarovski @GabrielCF_TCG It’s trivial to shuffle such that certain card(s) (eg the topmost card(s) or bottommost card(s)) don’t move position.

@gebarovski @GabrielCF_TCG Nah, I’m a competitive tcg player and I take cheating allegations seriously. I watched the video (the clip HE posted btw) multiple times and this frame stood out to me as a card being placed on top of the deck, after which the mash shuffles may have been done to avoid moving it
