@sarahs_sky I guess we all think we are the ones who actually can write :) But you're right. I recently read a book where almost every paragraph was only one sentence long. However, the responsibility also lies with the audience and some publishers, chasing profit over quality.

@HDunn_Writer Romcom author here :) Plenty of chick-lit, too, among my books. Though it sometimes feels like fantasy, all the happy endings...

I feel like every writer on my TL writes fantasy. No romcom? No chick-lit?

@SWHannahAuthor You wait until the kids are teenagers to start writing again :) In the meantime, you remember all the books you loved as a kid and read them to your child (only to discover how most of them are horribly outdated).

Wife and I are on the home straight - 6 weeks till our first baby is meant to arrive. Its all getting very real. So I am asking all you writer parents how you do it, your best advice, how you find time to write etc? Partly I hope the sleepless delirium leads to cool ideas 😅

Be honest: do you read your own writing and think, Wow, I’d actually buy this book ?

@wendyweeww Hi Wendy, long time no see (or read) 🙂 I had someone recently help me carry and load a big parcel into my car. If people knew how much such small things matter, they'd probably do them more often.

Random acts of kindness from people I've never met always leave me speechless and restore some of my faith in humanity. What was the last such act you experienced? #kindness

@lilamina11 @MarianneHolman I also remember seeing it in books published in Europe. It is uncommon, but I don't understand why some people are so offended by it.

This is a new one for me. The circled areas are the start of a dialogue section. No quotation marks. Dashes. And nothing at the end of the dialogue. This will take some getting used to, but I have 576 pages to do so. What you all think?

@MarianneHolman I remember (I am that old) that in some books I read, dialogues were marked by a dash, not quotation marks. It depends on the country and what's accepted there. I think it's more a thing of the past. So it is a legitimate way to mark dialogues, only maybe not in the US or UK.

@NickRevws True. I am glad for any review I get because people usually don't bother. But she also has a right to be disappointed. I don't see it as an entitlement, just an honest reaction.

@CandiceHorbacz Women are expected to love all the extra work that kids and a family bring. Men have the luxury of saying that taking care of the kids or household is women's job and that they feel emasculated if they have to do it. Seen that happen often.

@emiliesyverson @missmayn Exactly. People should be allowed to do what fulfills them, without the rest forcing them into one or the other direction. The same goes for men, btw.

I'm sure it's wonderful if that's what makes you happy! The problem, imo, was forcing all women into the same life path, regardless of that person's interests, desires, talents, etc. When I read old school psychologists in college -- Adler, Maslow, Jung, etc -- I keenly noticed a strong recurring phenomenon of their patients being depressed, unfulfilled housewives who were never really able to self-actualized bc they were pushed into homemaking as their only option. It's about choice, really.

if being a trad wife is so awesome and natural then why did it crater within two generations because every woman encouraged her daughters and granddaughters to choose a better life than she did.

@Cluffalo It's their ears, they should decide what to do with them. As simple as that. And no, it's not comparable to vaccines or any other health related decision parents need to make for their kids.

I'm sorry but there's zero reason to pierce the ears of literal babies Just because babies cry a lot doesn't mean that their pain is any less real or meaningful, why not just wait until they're old enough to decide for themselves? Your kids aren't Barbie dolls

@TimLewis33 @stefanroberts @jbarro So, do you feel inferior if someone has an academic title you don't have? Even if they sacrificed their time (and money) to work for that title? You are born into aristocracy, you work for a PhD. I think you can't compare the two, and using a Dr title is certainly not bullshit.

@stefanroberts @jbarro Europe has always been more heirachically driven. It's the same reason they put "De" or "von" in the last names of the old nobility. It's to tell you from the moment you meet that you're socially inferior. This is no different, and Americans know it's bullshit.

@jbarro It's a title one earns by working on it. Everyone with a PhD can use the Dr. title. M.D. is used for medical doctors. Why be so upset, unless she claims to be a medical doctor.
