If you're in London, this is happening next weekend: a mudlarking exhibition at the London Museum Docklands. I'll be taking part on the Sunday (Sept 29) only, showing many of my best clay pipes, as well as my china marbles and some intriguing children's crockery fragments.

Came to a wild realisation. When mud larking or digging through 19th century tip, you'll find army of discarded single use tobacco clay pipes. Currently accumulating rubbish are, disposable plastic vapes. Over a hundred years. And the people didn't change, just the delivery did.

She recently tried a legal approach, claiming I was infringing her copyright. I filed a "counter notice" and the blogposts are all now restored, because -- surprise! -- Google saw no merit in her claims. Again. #receptiogate

@GermanderS @GAYNORPRICEJON1 It would be slightly cooler the longer the stem but I think the quality and variety of the tobacco would have more effect on the perceived 'coolness'.

1/3: In the recent low(ish) tides I found very little - except for this. This clay pipe, dating from the 1600s, was just lying on the surface! It was quite far out, but it had obviously been recently washed along or eroded out from where it had been hiding all these years...

@GAYNORPRICEJON1 @GermanderS Fashion. You couldn't work while smoking such a long pipe so the owner was a person of leisure.

@GermanderS There was I thinking that it must be complete (which I guess is unusual) but it should be longer. Does anybody know why the stems were so long?
