Honest and Unpopular Reviews No. 7 R.C. Pro-Am (NES) Most people remember this one fondly and then leave it out of every serious racing conversation. I think that's a mistake. This is a top 5 racing game of all time. Rare had weapons, upgrades, and rubber-band AI figured out four years before kart racers got credit for inventing any of it. The drift handling still feels good today, and collecting letters to spell NINTENDO for the next car was a progression hook nobody else had in 1988. It's more fun than Mario Kart. It's more fun than Gran Turismo. It's miles ahead of Forza. It loses a point for repetition. The tracks start blurring together deep into the circuit, and that yellow car cheats like it's getting paid to. I rate this one a 4 out of 5.

Enduro Racer for the Sega Master System (Sega/1987). Originally an arcade title that was similar to Hang-On, the 8-bit home version shifts the perspective to an isometric view. Players must race against the clock over ramps, rocks, and water hazards while upgrading/repairing their bike.

NES Game of the Day: Mega Man 2! The gameplay, graphics, and music make this what is widely regarded to be one of the best sequels of all time. This game helped to define the NES. Have you ever conquered Dr. Wily?

@VeryEvilAsh limitedrungames.com/collections/al… Yes it was an updated build they sold in the past year or so, so not still currently on sale from them right now. not sure if extra copies have made their way to VGP yet but I'd check there periodically. also LRG dumps remainder of stock at times too.

I'm sorry but we lost the physical media war years ago. Took a vacation and brought Bloodstained to play on the Switch 2. Game won't even launch without an update. The wifi here sucks. We are literally buying digital codes on plastic carts and we've been doing it for years.

@FerdiBacon Oh no shit? I'll have to pick up that release. Is it an updated version?

@VeryEvilAsh this isn't the norm, though. it's an anecdotal outlier. the majority of both Switch 1 and PS5 releases have a playable 1.0 build on the physical medium. on this specific game, it's well known it was a garbage release. LRG sold an updated version awhile back with the DLC.

@ghostsawcanns $60 😂. This was years ago. It was a Kickstarter game

@crackmothband This was a Kickstarter game so maybe it didn't have all that's needed to play on the Switch 2. It said not all necessary data was available to launch the game. I eventually got it all downloaded. Took an hour on this terrible hotel wifi

@VeryEvilAsh Does the start software option above not work ? I mainly play indies and first party on my switch and never have had to force the update. Sounds like maybe a third party game issue if it doesnt start when selecting that option. Hope that helps if you havent tried it already.

@scaryhours I never played it on my Switch. It is stuttering on my Switch 2. Certain rooms stutter when I enter.

@BogosBinted1987 😆. Same. That's exactly what I was thinking before I was going to start. I knew there was probably an update since I never played it on the Switch 2 but when I tried it wouldn't boot at all.

@VeryEvilAsh Curious. I've never had this issue before and I ignore updates all the time. That start software button would have been worn down the way I was dodging updates in Tear of the Kingdom.

@BogosBinted1987 That's actually the message that pops up after you "Start Software". It won't start and that pop up comes right back.

@VeryEvilAsh I’ve been there! The WiFi was down at our house a few years ago. Going to go play my physical games on my Nintendo Switch… except there were updates! Forced. Updates. Updates I didn’t know about. Had to set up a hot spot. We’ve been in this war for years!
