Oh hey there @HomeDepot #fees in my #receipts 👋 I've been analyzing all my receipts in @Veryfi 's Vault and yeah this will be fun to unpack.. WTF is a CA LBR FEE? The California Lumber Products Assessment is a 1% fee applied to the selling price of lumber and engineered wood products purchased for use in California - Thanks @CAgovernor ! Environmentally friendly fee? Nah "Sustainable Forestry" is a thing so the lumber comes from forests grown and managed for this purpose. Which is why lumber is so sucky ( x.com/semerda/status… ) these days and warps so easily.. it's grown fast and the rings on your lumber are the 1st indicator of this short cut. Here's a rabbit hole to go down... The "4x4" you buy today is not a 4x4, it's more like 3.5 x 3.5. Fun times!

Extract custom data from complex or inconsistent documents using Veryfi’s Business Rules with LLM Prompt Mode. 💡 youtube.com/watch?v=gCultg… In this quick demo, discover how to go beyond traditional OCR and regex to intelligently pull unique fields using natural language prompts. 📃 Perfect for any variable document layouts. Veryfi’s Business Rules with LLM Prompt Mode lets you define custom extraction logic using plain English instructions. It runs on top of Veryfi’s powerful OCR and works exclusively with extracted text ideal when document layouts vary wildly. This feature helps automate document processing, reduce maintenance, and handle edge cases that regex can’t reliably catch. ⏱️ Timestamps: 00:00 - Why traditional regex fails on messy documents 00:45 - Introducing Veryfi Business Rules with LLM prompt mode 01:40 - Step-by-step: Creating a custom LLM rule 03:10 - Live demo: Extracting data from real documents 04:25 - Best practices & when to use Business Rules with LLM mode 05:15 - Limitations and performance tips 05:45 - Final thoughts & next steps #documentcapture #extraction #llm #ocr #documentprocessing #intelligentdocumentprocessing #invoiceautomation

Latest trend around Fuel prices in #California (Silicon Valley). Eek! 🧐 (my top 2 ⛽️ are @Shell & @Chevron ) @CAgovernor Government-imposed fees and taxes combined is at 45% of the total price per gallon. Nationally, the average gas tax accounts for only about 8.7% of the retail price. When transport costs are high so is everything else that needs to travel from source (manufacturer / supplier) to destination (retail). Fun times!

Checks are 400 years old. 🏦 Fraud against them is up 134% since 2020. And yet ~10–15 billion of them are still processed every year. Why❓ No interchange fees. For landlords, contractors, and B2B businesses writing large checks, a 0% transaction cost versus 1.5–3% on cards is a very easy decision. So checks aren't going away — but blindly processing them without fraud controls in 2026 is an open door ‼️ Check out how check processing is simplified by Veryfi: veryfi.com/the-vault/chec… #bankchecks #banks #fraudonchecks #fintech #checkfraud #dataextraction #documentprocessing

Did you know... US driver’s licenses encode personal data (name, DOB, address, license number, etc.) in the back-facing PDF417 barcode per the AAMVA standard. We decode this and cross-reference it against the OCR-extracted fields from the front of the license. Any mismatch is flagged as a potential tamper or fraud signal. veryfi.com/drivers-licens…

‼️A Bay Area couple lost nearly $60,000 not to a data breach, not to a phishing scam but to a chemically washed check pulled from a blue USPS mailbox. They wrote a $28,000 property tax check. Someone intercepted it, wiped the payee line clean, rewrote it to a stranger's name, and cashed it at an ATM in Minnesota. By the time they noticed, their bank had denied the fraud claim for reporting "too late." $60K out of pocket. For doing everything right. Check washing fraud isn't new but it's exploding. And tax payments are prime targets because they're high-value and completely predictable. This is exactly why at @Veryfi, we built fraud detection that goes beyond just reading documents. We detect every kind of alteration, digital tampering, and AI-generated fakes because fraud doesn't always look like fraud at first glance. If a system like this had been in place at the bank's check processing layer, that altered payee line would have flagged instantly‼️ The Glasers' story shouldn't happen to anyone. But until every financial institution takes document integrity seriously, it will keep happening. 🔗 Read full story here: abc7news.com/post/wells-far… #FraudDetection #CheckFraud #DocumentSecurity #Fintech #OCR #Veryfi #CheckWashing

we're making @blocks smaller today. here's my note to the company. #### today we're making one of the hardest decisions in the history of our company: we're reducing our organization by nearly half, from over 10,000 people to just under 6,000. that means over 4,000 of you are being asked to leave or entering into consultation. i'll be straight about what's happening, why, and what it means for everyone. first off, if you're one of the people affected, you'll receive your salary for 20 weeks + 1 week per year of tenure, equity vested through the end of may, 6 months of health care, your corporate devices, and $5,000 to put toward whatever you need to help you in this transition (if you’re outside the U.S. you’ll receive similar support but exact details are going to vary based on local requirements). i want you to know that before anything else. everyone will be notified today, whether you're being asked to leave, entering consultation, or asked to stay. we're not making this decision because we're in trouble. our business is strong. gross profit continues to grow, we continue to serve more and more customers, and profitability is improving. but something has changed. we're already seeing that the intelligence tools we’re creating and using, paired with smaller and flatter teams, are enabling a new way of working which fundamentally changes what it means to build and run a company. and that's accelerating rapidly. i had two options: cut gradually over months or years as this shift plays out, or be honest about where we are and act on it now. i chose the latter. repeated rounds of cuts are destructive to morale, to focus, and to the trust that customers and shareholders place in our ability to lead. i'd rather take a hard, clear action now and build from a position we believe in than manage a slow reduction of people toward the same outcome. a smaller company also gives us the space to grow our business the right way, on our own terms, instead of constantly reacting to market pressures. a decision at this scale carries risk. but so does standing still. we've done a full review to determine the roles and people we require to reliably grow the business from here, and we've pressure-tested those decisions from multiple angles. i accept that we may have gotten some of them wrong, and we've built in flexibility to account for that, and do the right thing for our customers. we're not going to just disappear people from slack and email and pretend they were never here. communication channels will stay open through thursday evening (pacific) so everyone can say goodbye properly, and share whatever you wish. i'll also be hosting a live video session to thank everyone at 3:35pm pacific. i know doing it this way might feel awkward. i'd rather it feel awkward and human than efficient and cold. to those of you leaving…i’m grateful for you, and i’m sorry to put you through this. you built what this company is today. that's a fact that i'll honor forever. this decision is not a reflection of what you contributed. you will be a great contributor to any organization going forward. to those staying…i made this decision, and i'll own it. what i'm asking of you is to build with me. we're going to build this company with intelligence at the core of everything we do. how we work, how we create, how we serve our customers. our customers will feel this shift too, and we're going to help them navigate it: towards a future where they can build their own features directly, composed of our capabilities and served through our interfaces. that's what i'm focused on now. expect a note from me tomorrow. jack
