Vets Are People Too

I know this isn't my usual vet content, but I'd like to ask the #vettwitter to please consider printing the flyer that can be downloaded from bit.ly/findtucker and posting it in your hospitals. This dog is dear to me and it's awful not knowing whether he's safe. #stolendog

@VetMedCorner @jtrebach I have the same problem. Doesn't help that I'm a natural night owl trying to work in a morning lark world and having to go to bed when my brain is most awake. To fall asleep, I have to have the TV on to stop the nighttime thoughts (which are always catastrophizing something.)

@jtrebach My partner obnoxiously falls asleep the moment their head hits the pillow. When I asked how he does it, the reply was, 'it's easy, I just switch my brain off' I've never been more mystified as my brain never stops.

@Pintail_7 Thank you. I’d read about huskies being difficult, but this was my first closeup experience with them. I wish people would educate themselves before getting them. This family took them in because the rescue needed help and have spent a year trying to find them homes.

@VetsArePeople2 I have a lot of husky patients. I warn all of my new husky owners - this breed has a high i ate pray drive. Please don’t blame yourself - poor kitty could have been cornered at any time. I love the breed - but I don’t trust them around smaller pets at all.

1/ My bubble has burst. I've been loving this stint of farmsitting I've been doing for the people I board my pony with. Went to feed the 4 huskies this evening and it was strangely quiet. They weren't waiting for me as usual and hadn't finished their breakfast.

@the_meag_ I seriously don’t know how you all do it. I had to bury a cat last night that had been killed by dogs and was thinking “How do vets deal with this kind of stuff every day and keep going to work?” All you people who work in #vetmed are real-life superheroes.

@lucyisnotonline Oh, that’s awful, and thank you. 💕 The huskies could tell I wasn’t happy with them when I did their morning feed today & I feel bad b/c they don’t know what they did wrong. The family took them in to help out an overburdened rescue & are having a hard time finding them homes 😔

@VetsArePeople2 Oh gosh this is so sad :( I’m so sorry your having to deal with this💙 I once house sat for a family and their dog killed 3 of the 4 chickens they had. The guilt was real but animal instinct is hard to compete with. Xx

4/ Don't think I can look at those huskies the same way anymore. I know it's instinct, but I can't help being so angry at them. He was a such a sweet cat. His 2 sisters (littermates) hung around me while I buried him, but I can't find his brother and am so worried.

3/ The huskies seemed normal this morning, so I can't stop thinking if only I'd gone to feed earlier instead of waiting till evening because of the heat. And would the owners want to know or would it unnecessarily ruin the last 2 wks of their vacation?

@Coxy_Girl_ @KarenGriffinPhD @CanineForum I've only had him a year and 4 months and can't imagine life without him. I wanted to adopt a senior because I thought maybe I wouldn't get as attached than getting a young dog 😭

@Coxy_Girl_ @KarenGriffinPhD @CanineForum They totally match his disposition of a teddy bear. 😍 Sadly, they're the result of flystrike. The shelter told me he must have been a backyard dog and my vet said they'll probably always be sore. 😔 But he's gotten really good about letting me put sunscreen on them. 🥰

It’s #SaturdayPuppuccino time! We waited until the high heat & humidity dropped a bit. 12/10, a tasty relief.

@ladycowparsley @VetPathophile We're having such a great time! I adopted him last year (the shelter had him as 10 yo and my vet changed it to 7) and he must have spent his entire life in a backyard and lot of things are new to him, so this is so good for him. And important bonding time for us. 😊
