A turing test for "consciousness" might be to assess whether an outside agent can predict your choices better than "you" can: Talk with the agent, write down something on a piece of paper, allow agent to predict what you wrote, show the result. Multiple trials.

@philiprosedale That model can really increase efficiency in many levels

Would you agree that the reason people trust in-person voting (as compared to mail-in or online) is because paper ballots are decentralized from the bottom-up? In other words, each neighborhood collects ballots and passes them up a chain of increasingly large groups until you reach the state/federal level. This process makes it much harder for a bad actor to fake or alter votes, because they would need to corrupt or manipulate everyone from neighbors at the bottom on up - a tremendous amount of effort. Whereas if those votes were posted into a single central database, that database could be hacked. Right? It seems like this pattern could be replicated digitally, if people organized themselves into nested groups which then reported vote counts up a hierarchical chain in a similar manner, with the summary data being auditable by all.

I think the word “alignment” as it is used in AI is going to be a joke in a few years. What does it even mean? How would one measure it?

@philiprosedale Today's AI generative tools are like the Microsoft Paint of a future era. Imagine them on a quantum computer: what seems cutting-edge now might one day be viewed as charmingly simple. 🖖

The design of existing AI is strongly influenced by GPU design - a way to draw pixels for computer games, not a way to simulate neural networks. Putting it another way: the compute available at the scale needed for AI is mostly matrix multiplication.

I don't understand how artists could use blockchain to capture a higher share of their sales. Middlemen (like Spotify or Netflix) aggregate content to capture attention, which is then a chokepoint allowing them to charge whatever % they want. How would that change?
