When his mother tried to take the console away, Kevon refused to give it up. His 20-year-old sister, Alexus Watkins, stepped in to help their mother. A fight broke out, and Kevon put his sister in a chokehold. Their mother tried to pull him off, but he would not let go. His younger brother called 911 and told the dispatcher that Kevon had Alexus in a chokehold. When police arrived, Kevon was still holding his sister down. Officers ordered him to release her. When he finally let go, Alexus collapsed unconscious to the floor. She died from asphyxiation. In 2019, Kevon Watkins was convicted of felony murder and sentenced to life in prison. As he was led out of court, he broke down crying and said: “I’m sorry.”
