Raja Shivaji is a Marathi-focused release that maximized its impact where it matters most, running a massive 6,500 shows daily across 1,648 theater. On the other hand, Chhaava is a pan-India Bollywood production with a massive Hindi-belt footprint, which naturally commands 16,300+ shows. A regional epic saturating its home market is a massive success in its own right; you can't measure a film's 'better' performance without accounting for the massive difference in distribution scale and target demographics.

I just watched the Raja Shivaji movie made by Riteish Deshmukh about Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj. I’m not saying anything wrong about him, but to be honest, the movie has no real vibe. It can’t be compared to Chhaava at all. The storytelling is quite poor and not presented properly. While watching Chhaava, you get goosebumps, but this movie didn’t give that feeling in any scene. Riteish Deshmukh यांनी अभिनेता म्हणून चांगलं काम केलं आहे, याबद्दल शंका नाही. त्यांचा प्रयत्न दिसतो, आदर दिसतो. पण जेव्हा मुख्य कलाकार स्वतःच दिग्दर्शक असतो, तेव्हा काही मर्यादा जाणवतात विशेषतः जेव्हा विषय इतका भव्य आणि ऐतिहासिक असतो. Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj यांची भूमिका ही फक्त एक ऐतिहासिक व्यक्तिरेखा नाही… ती हिंदवी स्वराज्याची प्रेरणा, धर्मरक्षणाची शक्ती आणि अस्मितेचा श्वास आहे. अशा भूमिकेला पडद्यावर आणताना अपेक्षा असते भव्यता, तीव्रता आणि एक अंतर्मुख करणारी दृष्टी. माझ्या वैयक्तिक मतानुसार, हा सिनेमा त्या उंचीपर्यंत पोहोचू शकला नाही. ज्या पातळीवर ही कथा जाऊ शकली असती, त्या पातळीपर्यंत नेण्यात दिग्दर्शनात काहीतरी कमी जाणवलं. छावा आणि राजा शिवाजी या दोन अनुभवांनी एक गोष्ट स्पष्ट केली इतिहास जिवंत करण्यासाठी फक्त अभिनय पुरेसा नसतो… त्यासाठी भव्य दृष्टी, खोल अभ्यास आणि तीव्र संवेदनशीलता आवश्यक असते. ही टीका नाही… हा एक प्रेक्षक म्हणून प्रामाणिक अनुभव आहे. कारण छत्रपती शिवाजी महाराज आणि संभाजी महाराज हे फक्त इतिहासातील नावे नाहीत… ते आपल्या श्रद्धेचा, अभिमानाचा आणि ओळखीचा आधार आहेत. आणि म्हणूनच… त्यांना पडद्यावर पाहताना अपेक्षा नेहमीच अत्युच्च असतात. 🙏 जय शिवराय! 🚩 जय संभाजी महाराज! 🔥 @yadujavalkar
