@gaminginthewild Growing up in the early days of video games, there were times when it felt good to exploit certain game systems to overcome something or simply experiment, but if you play the entire game that way, you're just asking to be disappointed.

@VideoGamersPod I never really understand types of play that involve exploiting loopholes to the degree that the roleplay of game is diminished.

So here is a perfect example of why Crimson Desert is going to be divisive. 🔵Guy realizes you can cheese some combat with a move... proceeds to play game using that move and then calls the combat shallow. 🔴A different guy goes "holy moly, look at how many tools they give you" and then goes ham with the combat. Same game, two very different ways of playing.

Sure, but you also know the importance of having that "early review" or your review ready to go as soon as embargo lifts (as someone who talks about games). Not many mainstream websites/YT channels are going to release a review 4 weeks after launch because you've missed the window at that point. This is again why I say a lot of gamers are disenfranchised with industry people/sites because they simply don't approach things the same way. There are a LOT of gamers that never finish games either and bounce off them when they stop being new/fun. I don't think that precludes someone from giving a valid opinion on something.

@VideoGamersPod I mean I’d argue that’s already happening regardless. Who’s putting 110 hours into a game in 2 weeks just so they can hit a deadline? I’d rather the game get finished and miss embargo than not finish it just to hit the embargo.

Crimson Desert now has 94 scored reviews on Metacritic. I’d be very curious to know how many of those 94 actually completed the game which should be a bare minimum requirement for press to score a game. My guess is not 94.

First impressions of Marathon are very high for us! Here’s a few take away: 🟢 Runs and plays very well (Base PS5) 🟢 Lack of ammo concern is addressed 🟢 Managing inventory learning curve is manageable 🟢 More players on map is addressed

People trying to compare Arc Raiders and Marathon to imply that Marathon shouldn't have been made because Arc Raiders exists or does X and Y better. I've seen people say "Marathon sucks, because Arc Raiders map is better" or "Arc Raiders is more solo friendly", "Marathon will fail because the inventory isn't as refined as Arc Raiders" Imagine this world where we try to imply that an epic open world RPG like RDR2 shouldn't have been made because Witcher 3 has better side quests or world building. Two games can exist in the same genre and both feel and play differently and appeal to different people for different reasons. You don't have to root for one game to fail because you prefer another game in the same genre. Can we please stop being smooth brains about all this stuff?

@Morgau77 Comparison is fine when it’s not immediately followed up by calling the other game slop or rooting for its downfall. :)

@VideoGamersPod All games have a right to exist and find their audience, but it seems fair to me to compare two recent games in the same genre. If you can’t compare apples to apples, what can you compare?
