Like, okay, aliens exist. But can you finally admit that TV commercials are a few decibels higher than the shows?

@VinceInFiction Hello. Did you work as a sound designer on the Bridgewater podcast? I'm a fan of the series.

@TahhanSolo @Lee_D_Phillips Sorry to reply to such an old post, but are you still open to logline DMs? Obviously I don't want to slide into your DMs unannounced, haha.

I get that finding a rep is equal parts great writing & matching vibes/work ethic. But it’s def worth finding the right one. So I’m paying it forward. If you’ll DM me your logline, I’ll read one script per month and send the great ones on. No guarantees. But I’ll do what I can.

@VinceInFiction Great to hear! Once I'm finished with my latest draft I'll get back to you. In the meantime, I'd be happy to look at your script!

The thing that scares me most, is sometimes with feedback, it's hard to tell if the reader is coming into the script with an open mind or if they want everything spelt out to them. I'll admit, as I make edits to my feature, hopefully the next reader will analyze the scenes

@david_s_consult Hey David! I just finished the cleanup for the latest draft of my dark comedy thriller pilot. I'd be up for a script swap if you had anything you'd want read. Let me know!

@VinceInFiction Sure! And I'd be happy to return the favor too, if you'd like of course. I just need a few days to work on this and get back to you.

Some scripts will be easy to write and others will feel like you’re pulling teeth. Both are valid and worth it in the end! #screenwriting

@david_s_consult Absolutely! Happy to whenever. I'm mid-massive-rewrite for a pilot, so mine is a ways off. But I'm always up for reading.

@david_s_consult That makes sense. Definitely been there. I left groups and instead just found a handful of people I personally trust and jive with. So I'll read for them; they'll read for me, etc. I'd be happy to read your script and give some feedback, if you're up for it.

@VinceInFiction I’m in a few screenwriting groups and seems whenever someone asks for feedback, the comments are filled with negativity/hate and it really discourages them. So far, my goal is to improve the dialogue.

gives me the direction of the plot. And then it's just about imagining the ending that underpins the theme, and the path to get there. Very oversimplified, but that's how a brainstorm process as helped me go from a "funny/ironic/terrible situation" to a fleshed out plot.

Situation first. When add on Character in the situation. Who would it be and what do they want? What are their flaws? Situation + Character helps point to Theme. What does the character need to learn? What do I want to say about it? Then Situation + Character + Theme...

Whenever someone comes to me with a "great story idea," it's usually really just a SITUATION, not a story. "A guy who comes second in Jeopardy after nearly winning a million dollars" isn't a story. The steps I follow to get to the story: (#ScreenwritingTwitter thread 1/3)

@david_s_consult I definitely feel what you mean here. I think finding a trusted group of other writers who can give feedback has been really helpful for me. It's like finding the right fit for someone whose opinion you trust, who also isn't just nitpicking or going in with a closed mind.

like I need another option than screenwriting contests. I know I'm a script consultant and I'm growing a business while working a day job, but I feel there has to be a better option for me. For now, I'll work on the script in my spare time, and worry about the next step later.

How can I learn to write tension as great as that moment when the on-hold music stops for a second and you think someone finally connected... but then the next song starts. #ScreenwritingTwitter

@Midorijuriasu It depends what you want to get into! Personally, as just a writer (no aspirations to direct), a short doesn't do much for my portfolio. If you want to get into directing, a short can be hugely beneficial. So if your goal is writer/director, I'd say a decent short.

Question to my screenwriting, director folks. You have a choice, you can finish a feature script or you can work on and possibly complete a decent short film (of your own writing). What would look and feel better in your portfolio? Asking for a friend. #screenwriting #Filmmaking
