I've just approved this weeks Episode 111 of COPI Café ! You passed away on Saturday 11/4 You taught me to love others and love God, to treat all people with respect no matter who they are or what they do. You had the humility needed to work through your struggles and showed that not only can a sober life be done, but it can be done with fullness. You showed me with bold love that my wayward path could not be enabled. You affirmed and encouraged me on my way to my purpose for this world. Throughout my life, you fought for me in prayer, with persistence, and never gave up on me despite me deserving it at times. You loved me unconditionally, with encouragement, counsel, prayer, and support. In the last 7 weeks, you chose life over comfort. Being warned of the challenging struggle ahead to heal, and that the odds that were not in your favor, you chose to fight for your life and for us. You’re my hero. As hard as it was, I’m grateful to have been there to hold your hand in the final earthly moment, and watch as the life left your heart, as you transcended this world to go and be with your heavenly family. Thank you Mom, I love you and I miss you.

@keyofjoshua Your mom's courage in the face of adversity is like a legendary character's determination. 🌟 Wishing her a swift recovery, and may her strength inspire us all in our real-life quests. 🗡️🛡️

Today I want to honor my new unsuspected hero who is currently battling for her life, and tell a small piece of her story. My Mom is currently in a long term acute care facility, having recently been moved from ICU. She had a knee surgery and then three days after was rushed to the emergency room because she couldn’t breathe. She had to go on the vent machine, came off, struggled, then went back on. They force extubated and then the doc met with us. He said gave the brutal truth as he saw it, “your options are to let her go peacefully with morphine and hospice or she can go back on the vent and get a tracheostomy. For the latter, there’s about a 20% chance she pulls through this.” Here is where my Mom became my new hero. She was off the second vent and we told her this news. She was fatigued, hurting, moderately sedated. She was responsive and clearly understood us. We explained the chances, and what she would have to go through next. We also gave her permission (not that we needed to but we didn’t want her to have pressure from us), to choose either way. She courageously chose to fight for her life and for her family and people she loves over comfort, knowing even that the chances are small. Makes me weepy just typing it. She’s so so fragile at around 98lbs but so very mighty with her will and faith. I wonder if I would choose the same. So proud of her and the example she is setting for the family. No stress or complaint or health issue in my life is worthy of comparison to what she is currently going through, I have a lot to be grateful for. I pray for her constantly. I pray for my own willingness to choose to really live over comfort every single day. My wife and I temporarily moved to help the family and see her daily and spur her on. My new office is at the hospital. She would want me to keep living so I’ve just shifted my work schedule and grateful to @RobGreig3 @geoff3000 @antrenicks, my wife, and the team for accommodating. Thanks to our community for understanding the brief pause on Copi Cafe. I typically don’t like to be too public with my personal life but in this case— honoring her, and a little extra prayer couldn’t hurt.
