Lol, imagine thinking the "revolution" started in Burger Land. The "third wave coffee" which is the todays "specialty coffee" started in the nordic countries No culinary trends starts in the US. Just look at the top 50 best restaurants in the world, you only have one in that list which is dominated by Europe and SEA

It's not that coffee sucks in Italy. It's fine. It's just normal. Simple fuel. It's that Coffee went through a huge craft revolution in America which ended up exceeding quality in most other countries. They found out Americans would pay 6 dollars for a cup of coffee as long it was good.

@pierre_s @litocoen I guess the Nespresso pods are a step up from jus de chaussettes lol. I’m Thai, in Thailand people drink instant coffee at home and go out for espresso-based specialty coffee at cafés; it’s rare that someone has a coffee or espresso machine at home.

@Halalcoholism One thing not mentioned in the replies here is the role of price. The cost of a cafe is sacrosanct. Italians would riot if an espresso cost more than two euro. And good quality artisanal coffee is impossible to produce at that price point.

What’s the deal here? How can Italy be so pivotal to coffee culture yet have bad coffee? Someone who knows things please explain to me. (Fwiw I was in Italy for a week and had mediocre coffee but it was where I was staying, I didn’t really go looking for it)
