I have some big personal news: Detailed has been acquired by Ahrefs. 🎉 I'm also super excited to be joining the company to work on marketing and product. A few months ago Tim Soulo invited me to speak at their upcoming conference in San Diego, Ahrefs Evolve. I brought up an idea I hinted at on the Ahrefs podcast last year, and 24 hours later we were on a call about me potentially joining the company. If you follow me you'll know I'm obsessed with all things strategy and research in this space - and more importantly, doing the work - so to get to do that on a much bigger scale is genuinely a dream of mine. The Detailed SEO Extension and all current features will remain free. In five years it has grown to 450,000+ weekly users, which I'm incredibly grateful for. We'll add new features at some point, while keeping in place what's already there. Detailed will remain a separate brand and I'll continue to personally update relevant projects there. My focus now is on product and tool ideas, research reports, marketing insights and everything actionable we can share to help grow your business. Finally, a HUGE thanks to everyone who has read and shared my work over the years for this to even be a possibility. 🙏 I'm really excited for what's next.

Ok I’m saying it… One of the best moves @ahrefs & @timsoulo made was bringing Glen on board. The pace and quality of updates lately has been unreal. 130+ product updates in 6 months says everything. Feels like the product is moving faster than ever right now!
Glen Allsopp 👾@ViperChill

In the six months since joining Ahrefs, I've documented 130+ product updates. Each month I like to share some of my favourites, so here's four from February.... (The carousel on LI has screenshots, but I've tried to attached some images here as well.) #1. Brand Radar can now show whether you're mentioned *within the content* of the URLs AI cites. You'll also see the 'Page Type' of each link, as we have it (currently tagging ~300M pages monthly). #2. Competitive Analysis gets a new tab to play with: Paid keywords. Uncover keyword opportunities across search advertising campaigns, including common paid terms, and any overlaps with organic rankings. #3. Google Maps visibility is here. Track your local search performance through key actions like calls, directions, and website clicks. You can also compare data across locations. #4. I pushed for this one: Tag the prompts you're using to monitor AI visibility. It's a simple idea, but makes it so much easier to filter through different prompt clusters around intent, or queries covering specific products and services. ** With these posts I'm hoping to make it easier for Ahrefs customers to see what we've been working on, so please let me know if these continue to be useful. (And I'll be honest, it would be cool if they convince someone new to check out Ahrefs as well). March has already been crazy with announcements of Firehose and API access for (almost) all paid plans, but we still have something very big to share… 😬

@ViperChill Interesting. How different is the self-attributed data compared to actual referral traffic / analytics data from AI tools? Is there a meaningful discrepancy?

February was a record for new Ahrefs sign-ups self-attributed to AI. 🤖 Mentions of Claude grew the most, and are on track to double in March. AI referrals only account for a small % of sign-ups — and we understandably get a lot of general answers ("social media") — but it's really nice to see the channel growing. (If multiple platforms were mentioned in a response, we didn't count it, so the numbers are technically a bit higher). As I've said before, I'm aware that self-attribution data isn't perfect. It’s affected by recency and recall bias, and it's not easy to account for every variation and typo. It's not the only data source we look at, but it's fun to dive into. (And especially interesting when people talk about specific YouTube channels, podcasts, blog posts, and so on, which convinced them to join.) I report on so many other companies talking about how AI is impacting their marketing, so I think we should do a bit more on that front as well. Hopefully it's interesting! 🤝

@zlxndr Attached the limits... (first column is Lite, second is Standard, then Advanced). Please reach out to support if you're having any issues with API calls. They're super responsive. 🤝

Holy ship. 🚢 Genuinely never thought Ahrefs would do this. API access is now available on all plans. No extra fees. 🥳 It's something I always wanted as a customer, and I had no involvement in this going live, so my surprise is genuine. Limits apply depending on your account, but I'm super happy more people can now play with this.

@ViperChill Ah, yep, but still a little confusing. It previously offered no direct api access, but you still got 10,000 api integration units a month. I wonder what that was before if it offered no direct api access? Anyways, good to see the change.

Spam labelling should be multiples better as of the last few weeks, but always a work in progress. (We also made sure they don't get sent in new link emails, by default). I know it's not perfect yet, so apologies there, but I can promise a few people are working on it. Will send you a mini example if that's cool. 🤝

@ConnorShowler Yep their keyword coverage has been absolute shit since Google made it harder to scrape SERPs. And the backlink data is flooded with spam.

@iamkarolk Mentioned the specific plans in follow-up replies but I could have clarified better in OP. It's for Lite, Standard, Advanced and Enterprise plans. Apologies! Screenshot was from ahrefs.com/pricing Will DM you.

@ER @ComRicheyweb I checked in with support and there are a few reasons why this might happen (e.g. trying to use an MCP key instead of an API key). If you reach out to support with specifics — they're very responsive — we can hopefully get it sorted for you.

@ViperChill @EnricBaltasar @zlxndr Let me second that, currently exploring the possibility to plug in your API, have to resort to a less qualitative solution as your price would be literally 50x...

@EnricBaltasar @zlxndr Since this is new, are you referring to previous MCP limits? :) They've been upgraded from 10,000 to 25,000 credits now on the Lite plan. Either way, I'll pass along your feedback. 🤝

@ViperChill @zlxndr I always found the limits ridiculously low. So low that it's more a toy than a helper unless you pay a ton of money.

@ComRicheyweb Could you please message support (they're super responsive) so you can share your plan and they can investigate. I haven't seen other reports of this but either way it shouldn't be happening, so want to get it working for you :)

@hhc_darren You missed some big news mate. 🤝 But I have been a paying Ahrefs customer for 12+ years (six without missing a month) so I would say Ahrefs either way. x.com/ViperChill/sta…
