I live in the Bay Area and worked with many Chinese people. The sense I got was that a huge portion of them eventually planned to return to China because the quality of life is higher there (not to mention it's where home and family is). The U.S just provides much higher salaries, and a much less cutthroat work culture (not 996). For someone to chose living in a foreign country far away from their family, the foreign country has to be vastly superior. No offense to people who love the Bay Area, but it does not surprise me why a foreigner from an ultra-modern metropolis like Beijing or Shanghai would prefer to live there instead of ... Sunnyvale.
