Upgrading in place means fighting your actual migration AND years of forgotten config at the same time. Old patches, random Gradle fixes, build settings nobody can explain. A fresh project removes all that noise.

Greenfield migration is the only React Native upgrade approach that's worked for me every time. Most recently: 0.68 → 0.81.5 The idea is simple — New RN project on the target version Copy src folder over Re-add dependencies one by one That's it.

This is why a "simple version bump" takes two weeks. It's never one thing — it's the architecture shift, library compatibility, and OS changes all hitting at once.

@Vipul__777 Upgrade Helper is useful for files, but it can't tell you if the app still boots cleanly. I usually check native modules, config plugins, and one real device build before trusting the upgrade.

Upgrade Helper has no idea about: ❌ Your custom native code ❌ Your third-party libraries ❌ How far your project has drifted from the vanilla template

@betomoedano @expo As a CLI dev I have so many doubts if expo will work as good as cli, I faced so many challanges while working on some native features with CLI, how will that be managed with expo.

Using @expo is like switching from Windows to macOS — once you do, there’s no going back.

React Native Security Rule #4: Never trust deep links until they're validated. Without strong validation, an attacker can take control of your app.
