Joseph Warren attended Harvard College in Cambridge, Massachusetts from 1755-1759. The plight of entering freshman was little different than those who enter universities today. They had to listen to their older fellows dictate the College Customs, a list of expected submissive behaviors—and were threatened with harsh punishments if they failed to obey. In this “system of freshman servitude,” every senior scholar subjected the new students to a variety of mistreatments and chores. A typical freshman would attach himself to a senior student and serve him exclusively.
But that didn’t stop students from playing pranks on one another. All the shaving cups, and other pieces of crockery ware adorned by handles were frequently gathered to gather by Joseph Warren, tied in a bunch, and hanged over the door of the principal professor’s room in such a manner that when that personage sought egress the suspended articles would come clattering to the ground, disturbing and alarming, with horrid din, the whole college population. Supposedly when Warren was not nailing his roommates’ shoes to the floorboards, he was placing frogs in his friends’ pockets. And on more than one occasion, he would get out of the building at forbidden hours, by tying the sheets, in the dormitories together, and thus making a rope by which he could get through a window and reach the ground unharmed.

🦅 The Sons of the American Revolution: serious about history… mostly.
We’ve marched near food trucks, and worn tricorns with pride (and confusion).
What’s your most fun, unexpected, or reverently ridiculous SAR moment?

Well, I've been on Twitter/X ten minutes, and I've already seen 100 posts about the Battle of Kings Mountain fought on this day, 1780. Guess I don't need to expound on that battle.
