@nmdmatt I'm actually thinking of getting a Linux box (not necessarily a laptop) for my development environment - something hefty enough to run test migrations reasonably quickly - and retiring my MacBook Pro to personal/travel use.

@nmdmatt re: paralysis - my attitude has become if I've reached the point where I'm trying to figure out if A is 1% better than B, just flip a coin and commit to the result (of course, if you find yourself groaning at the result, commit to the other thing).

Does anyone else get purchase paralysis, and being afraid of wasting money? I need a new laptop, and I've been searching for a year. I'm down to System76, XPS 13, or the new Macbook 13". But I can't make myself pull the trigger.

@philsturgeon N ot just Europe - the mighty Mississippi has shifted course in many places. Illinois' original capital of Kaskaskia is still in Illinois, but on the Missouri side of the river. @37.9108531,-89.9136609,13z/data=!4m5!3m4!1s0x8877d38e06c63b99:0xdb5f0c0ab163fd60!8m2!3d37.9214413!4d-89.9131643" target="_blank" rel="nofollow noopener">google.com/maps/place/Kas…

A lot of them are clearly “you keep left of the river, we got the right” then the river moves and everyone gets confused.

@jenlampton Excellent question. We are working on plans that will likely include a hike in the Blue Ridge Mountains, potentially to a waterfall, and time to spend with the community in nature as a refreshing end to the camp weekend. We will work on providing more details online.

@grafcaps @rdohms @MongoDB But... "undoable" means you can't do, not you can undo. It's a parsing ambiguity - "un-doable" vs. "undo-able". And I think for most English speakers "un" is the lowest priority operator, thus the last to be applied.

@rdohms @MongoDB Think do vs undo. It is proper English, just one of the billion caveats

Why does @MongoDB have a `Unserializable` to add the `bsonUnserialize`. Is that proper english? To me Unserializable means you can't serialize, not that you are doing the opposite of serializing, also known as Deserializable. Am I missing some hidden english debate here?

@colinodell @ramsey Of course, they wouldn't work in isolation - the Senate should certainly advise the House on what they're likely to accept.

@colinodell @ramsey Perhaps a House of Developers which initiates legisl... ummm, language proposals. And once approved by 2/3 of the House, a 2/3 vote in the Senate (core devs) to finalize.

@ramsey @taylorotwell @zeevs Agreed - the users of the language should certainly have a significant say. as long as there are more than enough core devs to veto anything that's a nightmare to implement.

“Imagine it were possible to recognize not the faces of people who had already committed crimes, but the behaviors indicating a crime that was about to occur.” Sounds like the perfect technology to get lots of innocent people of color hurt and killed. defenseone.com/technology/201…

Does anyone else feel that they basically lucked into a high paying career because their interests randomly aligned with scarcity and a rapidly growing field, and that it's nowhere near as hard, or as societally valuable as what teachers, medical professionals and care-givers do?

@SamirTalwar It'd be interesting to see age demographics - how many old fogeys like me are there who say "Terminal" because we started out working on physical terminals (e.g., VT100s)?
