Work is progressing on the numeric only SG-41Z model of Virtual Schlüsselgerät 41 used for sending weather information. The print wheels were tricky but are done. Another difference is the SG-41Z only has 5 of the sensing arms (6 on SG-41) and 15 bars on the cage (25 on SG-41)

On this Day! In 1941 The Zuse Z3 was completed by Konrad Zuse in Berlin. I's the world’s first working, program-controlled, and fully automatic digital computer. It was a Turing-complete machine and implemented essential components of modern computing . #ZuseZ3 #TuringComplete

On this day in 1949, the EDSAC at Cambridge University ran its first programs! It calculated a table of squares and a list of prime numbers, becoming the first practical general-purpose stored-program computer in regular service. The digital world started here. #EDSAC #OnThisDay

On 4 May 1944, Bletchley Park codebreakers saw the German Abwehr testing a cipher machine they had not encountered before. This turned out to be the SG-41, and today is a great day to try out the interactive 3D simulation : sg41.virtualcolossus.co.uk. Thanks @VirtualColossus !

The Evolution of Enigma. Enigma machines developed over time, with different versions used by different countries. The German military introduced a more advanced model with an added feature that made messages far harder to decipher. Elsewhere, simpler versions remained in use, closer to earlier designs. On the left is the Enigma A320, without a plugboard. On the right is a German military Enigma, equipped with a plugboard. A closer look at A320 is available in Block C Visitor Centre at Bletchley Park. #BletchleyPark #Enigma

A very happy 90th Birthday Professor Brian Randall! I had the chance to meet him & his sons in person last year and thank him for recovering the information about Colossus in the 1970s. It was that beginning that has led to the knowledge we have about it today.

Happy 90th Birthday Professor Brian Randell! For decades, he has been at the forefront of CS—from declassifying the Colossus to pioneering system dependability. We’re honoured to have him as our 2020 Honorary Fellow. Have a great weekend, Professor! youtu.be/FZ7s02-klcs
