Stop aborting Down syndrome babies! Inclusive café / retail— Employees and owners at Bitty & Beau’s Coffee, a well-known business that hires many people with disabilities, including Down syndrome. These highlight capable, happy individuals contributing in the workplace. Many organizations now promote inclusive hiring, and people with Down syndrome successfully work in offices, retail, hospitality, arts, and more.

This is not just a past issue—it is happening now, across the UK. there has been growing concern about the treatment of families with disabled children and disabled adults. Many parents are experiencing what can only be described as systemic bullying by services that are meant to support them—local authorities, the NHS, and, in some cases, schools. No parent should ever feel that they have to wait until their child is seriously harmed—or die “ to be safe to speak out. For many families, the pressure is relentless and deeply distressing. It includes fabricated referrals, inaccurate or misleading reports, and the constant threat of child protection procedures being misused. Safeguarding and Public Law Outline (PLO) processes are vital when used correctly. But there is increasing concern that they are, in some cases, being applied inappropriately—causing fear, trauma, and mistrust among families who are already vulnerable. Disabled adults are also being affected—left without proper support, or in some cases separated from their families, without clear justification or adequate advocacy. There are serious questions being raised about the misuse of Fabricated or Induced Illness (FII) allegations. Families report feeling silenced, discredited, and “gagged” when they attempt to challenge decisions or raise legitimate concerns. This creates an environment where professional failings can go unchecked and accountability is avoided. This must stop. Families deserve transparency, fairness, and respect—not intimidation. Safeguarding systems must protect, not harm. Professionals must be held accountable where standards fall short. This is not a marginal issue. It is widespread, and it needs national attention. It should be part of a wider public conversation—shared, discussed, and scrutinised across every platform in the UK.
