The common Indian folks are surprised at the sudden deterioration of India's relations with Nepal. They perceive it as something out of the blue. But the fact of the matter is it was brewing for a long time and in a sense it was India's own doing. The Hindu monarchy was nationalistic yes and used to push back on India sometimes, but it believed in regional peace and cooperation and at the end, wanted friendly relations with India overall. In their greed and desire to fully control Nepal they did away with the Hindu monarchy, the one institution that stabilised Nepal and secured India-Nepal border and foolishly helped the Maoists into power. In 2006 they practically handed Nepal over to the US on a silver platter, a move that allowed the US to establish a firm base and network in Nepal. The US carefully took 2 decades for homework and finally took over the entire country last September. The reasoning behind India's decision was that US interests and Indian interests in Nepal align vis-a-vis Tibet. But what they didn't realise was that they too are on the menu and that the US cannot be trusted for. What started with the outsing of Imran Khan was actually the start of an encirclement which rolled through Sri Lanka and Bangladesh and culminated in Nepal. Now the Chrakravyuha is complete.
