Today, Texans remember those killed in traffic crashes. Some gather on the South Steps of the Capitol at 5pm. Others will 4,167 steps to remember those killed in the last year. Some post in honor of those hurt in crashes. Some change policies to end the traffic deaths. #WDoR2024

Next Sunday 11/17 is World Day of Remembrance for Road Traffic Victims. @VisionZeroTexas will host the Texas vigil on the South Steps of the Texas Capitol. After the vigil we will take 4,167 steps around the Capitol honoring each person killed in 12 months of Texas car crashes.

Driver speed is one of the fundamental problems that modern culture isn't ready to break free from. Chances of life-altering crash increase with speed, and it's especially dangerous for young & old people.

Meaningful progress is happening in Dallas w/ @TxDOTDallas @NCTCOGtrans & @DDOTransport working together to make the city’s most dangerous street safe. We support community leaders calling for immediate changes. The dangerous design speed can be fixed w/ interim improvements.

Sadly, it appears more people died in City of Houston traffic crashes in the first 6 months of the year than in any previous year. The people of Houston deserve a better transportation system. Leaders at all levels have options to reduce these preventable tragic deaths.
