“Texans can and should demand that all elected officials work honestly and collaboratively … to keep us safe when we are riding in cars and trucks, riding on bicycles, walking or using a wheelchair, or riding in transit,” Crossley said.

“While there are of course disagreements about how to save lives & many examples of the us-vs.-them wars on bicycles & cars, Houston appears to be the only large government that I am aware of that has publicly shifted away from the safe systems approach to ending traffic deaths.”

“Too many families in Houston have lost a loved one to a violent, unexpected event just trying to use the transportation system,” said Jay Crossley, executive director of the nonprofit Farm & City who has worked statewide on traffic safety improvements. houstonchronicle.com/news/houston-t…

People of Austin in Travis or Williamson County- ie constituents of CTRMA! Please take this push poll that wants to justify roadway expansions by Oct 10, but argue for safety. Click on the map & add comments! Stop sprawl subsidy! End freeway expansions! wspengages.com/290ExtensionPr…

I'm proud @FarmAndCity & @VisionZeroTexas have supported the smart approach the State of Texas is taking to including autonomous vehicles as just one part of a broad strategy to reduce & end traffic deaths & serious injuries on Texas streets & roads. This is good stuff. #txlege
State Representative Pat Curry@PatrickJCurry1

I had a great morning participating in the Autonomous Trucking & Texas Workshop this morning with Senator @HagenbuchTX and representatives from DMV & DPS. This technology will save lives on TX roads and I was proud to help get this important piece of legislation over the finish line during the 89th session! #txlege

@itsneenzjeez Yes. My understanding is that Waymo and several other firms have achieved level 4 autonomy and there is starting to be a substantial record that these AI drivers (but only those really functioning at that high level of safety) are now safer than the average human driver.

@JoeCutrufo Fun detail for Houston that I think is important: The area the same size as the loop to the west of the loop also is home to about 600,000 people. The dense urban core is really those two chunks, home to 1.2 million people (often depicted as an arrow).

There are more people living inside the 610 loop than live in Baltimore, Milwaukee, Kansas City, Miami, Minneapolis, Tampa, Cleveland, New Orleans, or Pittsburgh.

You could fit the entire population of Atlanta inside Houston's 610 loop and still have room for everyone who lives in Boulder, Colorado.

@austin78753 This is the opportunity to make Texas streets safer that we have in front of us. And it’s good. Please help with this one and I’m happy to talk to you next month about some other proposal. Thanks!

We should not miss this moment to make transformative change for Austin. The Our Future 35 Cap & Stitch Project is a strong step toward a more connected, more livable future and I am eager to work with my colleagues to bring it to life in the coming years. #txlege

Austin-area state lawmakers have weighed in on tomorrow's City Council vote for a potential series of highway 'caps' to cover portions of I-35. More from council's debate yesterday over different funding plans for the program: communityimpact.com/austin/south-c…

Austin has a once-in-a-generation chance to reconnect our communities. That’s why I joined my colleagues in urging the Council to move forward with Our Future I-35 Cap & Stitch project. This is about more than infrastructure — it’s about building a more connected, livable ATX.

It’s easy to claim we must sacrifice one priority for another. But real leadership finds ways to build equity, connection, and progress — simultaneously. The I-35 caps bring in resources without pulling from housing or climate. We cannot shy from this opportunity.
