BREAKING: The Senate just passed the legislation allowing the devastation of the Boundary Waters. The motion passed 50-49, and now goes to Donald Trump’s desk. The way Republicans passed this bill that prevents future administrations from issuing protections for Superior National Forest, so this pristine land will be exploited in perpetuity unless Congress intervenes to reverse this decision. The state of Minnesota can still block the Chilean mining corporation from operating in Superior National Forest and protect the Boundary Waters from pollution.
More Perfect Union@MorePerfectUS

The Senate is about to vote on handing a national forest over to a foreign corporation. A Chilean mining company wants to develop a copper mine upstream from the Boundary Waters, a pristine wilderness. The GOP has to choose between a foreign corporation and their constituents.

There is a global concerted effort ongoing right now to erase anonymity online because the free internet puts power mongers at risk. Without anonymity, governments can find dissenters and problems early and nip them in the bud. Doxxing will become an even bigger problem than it already is. It will make arrests and firings a walk in the park. Anonymity allows whistleblowers to speak, allows dissidents to organize, and creates a true marketplace of ideas. During the COVID era discussions in academia were shut down and moved online where professionals could discuss trends and data without risk of persecution or firing. In some cases in Europe and Australia, professionals faced legal ramifications for speaking up. The rise of the dissident right in 2016 and its continuance has it's roots in online discussion. After years of manipulated Overton window shifts, the dissident right appeared to counter these shifts as well as a counter to the established right. These discussions were and sometimes still are dangerous to careers and entire livelihoods. Anonymity allows these discussions to be had. Governments do not operate morally and will pretend this is all done to "protect the children" but in reality it's a power grab to stop dissent in the future. There is AMPLE evidence of the US government and other governments doing this in the past. "Through counterintelligence it should be possible to pinpoint potential troublemakers and neutralize them"

A new national law has been introduced to require all Operating Systems to have mandatory Age Verification. House Resolution 8250 : “To require operating system providers to verify the age of any user of an operating system, and for other purposes.” The Federal bill was introduced by Rep. Josh Gottheimer, Democrat from New Jersey. And is co-sponsored by Elise M. Stefanik, Republican from New York. @MGecko117 There's difference in a pessimistic sentiment vs realists sentiment. The possibility for things to not go in this direction exists, exponential increase is not inevitable and guaranteed. A potential exists yes, but it is not some ordained outcome. To doubt is not to damn.

It’s kind of disappointing to hear this type of pessimistic sentiment about space travel from an artist whose work has been extremely inspiring and influential to me for such a long time. Our species is about 300,000 years old. We’ve only had agriculture for around 12,000 years, powered flight for 122 years, modern rockets for 100 years, and semiconductors since 1947—only 79 years. That’s roughly 0.02% of our species’ history Nearly everything we think of as “modern civilization” has happened in this tiny fraction of our existence, so saying “we’ve existed for 100,000 years without becoming a spacefaring civilization” is, frankly, an absurd argument

I'm not even talking about extinction. It might just never become a major cultural value; its extremely expensive and space is almost all immediately lethal to humans. We have existed in various societies for over 100,000 years without becoming a space-faring civilization.
