@dylanwiliam @MatthewAKraft @DCol_Head Will look into some of these references in more detail; much appreciated. If a more effective framework is needed I’d be interested in this. But that’s complex, right? Still, 33% variation is alarming! Review needed for us @DCol_Head !

@VizzardChris @MatthewAKraft @DCol_Head Not until we know more about what makes teaching effective. My estimate is that the best-validated observation protocols, such as the Danielson Framework for Teaching, account for at most around one-third of the variation in teacher quality.

Research suggests that lesson observers are worse than chance at identifying effective teaching likely to improve pupil outcomes (Coe et al, 2014). What complexion does that put on the current schedule of lesson observations in your school?

@dylanwiliam @DCol_Head @MatthewAKraft That’s really helpful and appreciated. Whilst I agree with the ineffectiveness of obs and the need to provide quality CPD, as leaders we should also be able to identify ineffective teaching;however, how should we do that effectively?!

This is what we get when we accept policy makers who don’t understand our standards. Unreal. @RealGeoffBarton has commented, I’d suggest all all education organizations should also @COBIS_CEO @BSMEorg

Is it too much to ask in @BorisJohnson Britain that the new Education Minister set an example to our nations children and not show the general public her middle finger.

@dylanwiliam @Miss_Snuffy I agree wholeheartedly. A committee of educationists on an advisory level is the only way forward towards genuine reform and progress. Policy devised and and embedded by those in and around schools. How on earth do we change this with govt at this state?

@dylanwiliam @Miss_Snuffy But isn’t that exactly the point? The DfE should be relevant and have huge positive impact on the whole system. It never will whilst headed up by politicians.

If half my senior team resigned, Michaela would blow up. I could not slot in alternative staff and happily keep going. So what does that say about how governments run? And our expectations? Do these roles need no expertise or experience? 🧐

Is it not significant that the most important part of this political meltdown is the red herring that the people who make decisions aren’t experts? Already speculation on who will or not be next i/c education. It’s just not good enough. Our kids deserve better.
