I think Europeans take for granted living in Europe. You can just buy a ticket on a whim to fly to Greece, Italy, France, England, Slovenia, Croatia, Malta, whatever takes your fancy, for a quick weekend getaway. Often for really cheap too via Ryanair, like way cheaper than Spirit was. I just bought a ticket to Rome from Barcelona for ~€40. 🤯 And you don't even need a passport. Many Europeans don't even have a passport due to the Schengen Area. In the US, if you fly 3 hours away, you end up in freaking Topeka, Kansas with nothing to do. In Europe, you could end up in the Swiss Alps, the Mediterranean coast, quaint Italian towns, French vineyards, the Eiffel Tower, the freaking Colosseum, etc. etc.

In Italy they add basel, in other countries they add oregano, parsley. You can also improvise adding different fresh veggies, also cheese, feta.

Spain just lost a tax fight with Shakira so badly that the court is making the tax agency refund her €60 million AND pay her entire legal bill. That second part is the unusual one. Spanish courts almost never punish their own tax agency. The case came down to one number Spain could never prove: how many days Shakira actually lived in the country in 2011. To be taxed in Spain on money you earn anywhere in the world, you have to be there more than 183 days a year. That's the law. The tax agency tried for years to prove Shakira crossed that line. Even with every record they could find, they could only reach 163 days. Her own records put the number at 143. She spent most of 2011 on tour. 120 concerts in 37 countries. She didn't own a home in Spain, and her business wasn't headquartered there either. The agency's whole case rested on the fact that she was dating a Barcelona soccer player at the time. The original tax bill Spain handed her was €55 million. About half was the tax claim itself. The other half was a fine for not paying it. So Spain was demanding €27 million in tax, plus €27 million in punishment for not paying the €27 million they couldn't prove she owed. Today's ruling wiped all of that out. The court ordered a €60 million refund with interest. Then it ordered the tax agency to cover her entire legal bill from its own budget. It's the kind of penalty Spanish courts rarely impose. They only use it when they think the agency had no business bringing the case in the first place. Spain has done this to other wealthy foreigners before. Lionel Messi was convicted in 2016 of dodging €4.1 million in taxes. Cristiano Ronaldo settled in 2019 for €18.8 million. Shakira herself has paid Spain twice already in other cases: €7.3 million in 2023 to avoid a separate trial, and another €6.6 million in 2024 for a different one. The pattern with rich foreigners has been the same every time: pursue, assess, fine. Shakira pointed something out in her own statement. She had the resources to fight Spain for 8 years. Most people in her position don't. They settle in year one because they can't afford a decade of legal bills against the government. Spain can technically still appeal to the Supreme Court in the next 30 days. Tax lawyers say they almost certainly won't. The ruling is too solid.

W 🇲🇩 Mołdawii były one na tyle poważne, że doprowadziły właśnie do dymisji szefa tamtejszej KKRiT - Vlada Țurcanu. O ile jednak w Polsce powszechne zaskoczenie i oburzenie wzbudził wynik uzyskany w sobotę przez 🇮🇱 Izrael (ewentualnie głosy Ukraińców), to między Prutem a Dniestrem skandal wywołał rezultat... 🇵🇱 Polski. A raczej 🇵🇱 Polski i 🇷🇴 Rumunii. Co się stało? Zacząć trzeba od tego, że Mołdawia tradycyjnie utrzymuje bardzo bliskie relacje z Rumunią. Obydwa kraje łączy wspólnota języka, historii, a nawet doświadczenie wspólnej państwowości. Zresztą - wielu Mołdawian oraz zdecydowana większość Rumunów uważa, że Mołdawianie i Rumuni to po prostu jeden naród, rozdzielony sztucznie przez pakt Ribbentrop-Mołotow. W efekcie Mołdawianie tradycyjnie i masowo głosują w trakcie Eurowizji na swoich zachodnich sąsiadów, zaś Rumuni na "braci zza Prutu". Tym razem było podobnie. Wykonująca piosenkę "Choke me" rumuńska piosenkarka Alexandra Căpitănescu zgarnęła od mołdawskiej publiki okrągłe 12 punktów - maksimum, jakie było do uzyskania. Innego zdania na temat utworu było jednak wyłonione przez KKRiT jury, które oceniło wykonawczynię znacznie niżej, plasując ją ostatecznie dopiero na 8. miejscu. Dużo lepiej od niej wypadły m. in. 🇮🇱 Izrael (miejsce 2), 🇬🇷 Grecja (3) czy 🇧🇬 Bułgaria (4). Więcej punktów otrzymały także 🇳🇴 Norwegia (5), 🇨🇿 Czechy (6) czy 🇦🇺 Australia (7). Najwięcej punktów — a właściwie "najmniej", bo jurorzy wystawiają za każdą piosenkę ocenę od 1 do 24, gdzie "1" to wynik najwyższy — zdobyła zaś w Mołdawii... 🇵🇱 Polska.🔥🔥 Trzech z siedmiorga członków komisji konkursowej przyznało nam po jednym punkcie, dwóch kolejnych po trzy, a dwóch ostatnich odpowiednio dwa oraz siedem. Decyzję jurorów natychmiast skrytykowali nie tylko sami Mołdawianie, ale też przedstawiciele politycznych elit kraju. I to masowo. Minister kultury Mołdawii oświadczył, że ocena komisji był „niezrozumiała” i zażądał wyjaśnień od KRRiT. Marcel Spătari, deputowany rządzącej partii PAS i były minister pracy stwierdził zaś że „to jury nas nie reprezentuje” i zwrócił uwagę, że najlepiej oceniona przez sędziów mołdawskich Polska nie dostała właściwie punktów od mołdawskich widzów. Inny poseł należący do klubu parlamentarnego PAS, Dinu Plîngău zasugerował, że komisja mogła zostać skorumpowana, zażądał dymisji kierownictwa KRRiT i zagroził, że jeśli do niej dojdzie to podejmie próbę odwołania władz instytucji na drodze oficjalnej. Pozaparlamentarna Partia Liberalna - kierowana przez byłego premiera Mihaia Ghimpu w oficjalnym komunikacie także zażądała dymisji kierownictwa rady. W podobnym tonie wypowiedzieli się także liczni dziennikarze i komentatorzy. I tak np. Daniel Vodă, były rzecznik rządu mołdawskiego (z ramienia partii PAS) zarzucił jury, że nie zrozumiało "geopolitycznego wymiaru Eurowizji". Reprezentujący Mołdawię piosenkarz Satoshi próbował natomiast łagodzić sytuację. Z jednej strony wezwał on do nieutożsamiania decyzji jurorów z opinią mieszkańców kraju, którzy dali braciom z zachodu maksymalną liczbę głosów, ale zarazem zwrócił się z apelem by "nie podsycać nienawiści". "Nasze kraje były i będą przyjaciółmi" - oświadczył piosenkarz. W efekcie całego tego zamieszania szef KKRiT podał się właśnie do dymisji. 🔥🔥 Mówiłem - Eurowizja w Mołdawii to nie przelewki.

Linșajul public împotriva Darei a început încă din februarie când a câștigat selecția națională pentru Eurovision. Cântăreața a fost nevoită să se mute în Grecia, la Atena, timp de 2 luni pentru a nu fi apostrofată pe stradă și să aibă liniștea să pregătească concursul. Într-un interviu pentru presa bulgară, ea a spus că nu citește comentariile la adresa ei și și-a exprimat regretul că mulți bulgari rămân profund conservatori: ”Pot spune că suntem un popor foarte conservator. Îți dai seama de acest lucru când ieși în lume și vezi că oamenilor nu le pasă cum ești îmbrăcată. Nu comentează.
