In the Iliad, Homer checks off warships setting off from *many* ports, but archaeologists had found little evidence of Bronze Age harbors on the Greek mainland. A recent survey of Kalamianos, near Mycenae, however, is proving most illuminating. archaeology.org/issues/may-jun…

Chinese archaeologists have identified a heavily corroded iron object unearthed from the Sanxingdui Ruins in southwest China as the earliest known meteoritic iron artifact from the region, filling a longstanding gap in the study of ancient Chinese metallurgy. Measuring about 20 centimeters long and up to 7.9 centimeters wide, the long strip-shaped object, believed to have been used as a tool or weapon, was recovered from the No.7 sacrificial pit at the site in Sichuan Province. The study was published in the journal Archaeological Research in Asia.
