The Liberal Party telling angry voters they’re voting wrong is not a strategy and it’s clearly not researched. SBS Insight invited me onto their latest program on the One Nation wave. I’m glad I went. What came through clearly is what we at RedBridge have seen for months. But it mattered to put these voters in front of a camera, because too often commentators tend to reduce them to caricatures. The human story behind why they moving to One Nation is diverse and varied. Hence, at RedBridge we are constantly talking to these Australians, and last night confirmed what we hear in the field, a remarkably diverse set of reasons people are landing on One Nation. It’s abundantly clear to me that the Liberal Party has done none of this work. Their line, “a vote for One Nation elects Labor”, is petrol on the fire. It assumes these voters are confused. They aren’t. They’ve made a choice. The quote in the image, from a One Nation volunteer at the Farrer by-election, captures it. They don’t want the old world back. They want the old order ripped down. And yes, even if that means a One Nation vote helps ‘Labor get elected’. Because right now, the first target on the road to revenge is the Coalition. Link to the episode below.

@heidimur Doing the maths on that 28 months is diabolical for how much they spent renovating the building, plus per year the service. Be very curious how many of that 2919 were repeat stays just trying to get a bed for the night.

@heidimur @abcmelbourne Pretty sure they never released the report into justifying the center in the first place either, even though it was a requirement

It appears Victoria’s much vaunted sobering up centre won’t be around much longer. @abcmelbourne has had confirmation from Health Dept that it’ll shut down next year.

The fact the govt interpreted "intergenerational equity" as screwing over pensioners by suddenly removing their extra healthcare rebate - either costing them hundreds extra a year or estimating that tens of thousands will cancel their health insurance - is genuinely disgraceful.

@AshPolitik This is most strongly driven by the fact supply is not keeping up with demand in either a buying or renting market and this budget does absolutely nothing to address that issue in any meaningful way, so thinking it'll result in positive housing change over all is just delusion.

@AshPolitik Funnily enough the Vic rental market is absolutely fkd & at a very unhealthy ~1% vacancy rate, even with govt 'stimulus' of 5% deposits etc. So the number going from renting to buying is not proportional to those still in the rental market & suffering but just fk those guys right

I've just received details about another stabbing in the CBD. This happened on the weekend but hasn't yet been reported by media. It was a random attack, and the victim needed surgery.

What a day. A budget of lazy, sloppy policy that will 100% have to be amended sometime in the next 5 years but also witnessing each-way Albo shit splinters by somehow managing to piss off everyone again - not going far enough for one side yet too far for everyone else. Incredible

Listening to some 'experts' platformed by media today on the budget especially neg gearing changes & it makes sense why voters keeps feeling blindsided by fallouts of govt choices. Insane the amount refusing to discuss RENTAL impacts from an elitist, academic bubble of privilege.

If you are a regional Liberal or National Party MP, best you demand better from your team. You have no choice. Unless something changes, you will lose your seat. The Nationals and Liberals brought 1996 attack ads to a 2026 realignment. The Nationals and Liberals spent the Farrer by-election plastering David Farley with corflutes screaming he “wanted to run for Labor.” Farrer voters saw the attack. Read it. Voted for him anyway. Tribal-purity attacks only work when the electorate is still organised around tribes. Not anymore. The realignment in seats like Farrer isn’t conservatives vs progressives, it’s everyone vs the system. Telling these voters their candidate once flirted with Labor doesn’t disqualify him. It barely registers. The deeper incoherence or to be blunt, incompetence. The Coalition has spent months chasing Pauline, on immigration, mimicking the populist mood, signalling they get the disaffection. Then in Farrer they pivot to attacking her candidate as not ideologically pure. You can’t run both plays at once. Unless of course you are the Coalition who clearly have no idea how to respond to this crisis.

ABC’s called Farrer for One Nation. By a pretty comfortable margin. First House of Reps seat win for Pauline Hanson’s party.

Not to worry though, there's every reason to have complete faith the Libs will continue to learn absolutely nothing meaningful from this experience. It's almost impressive that one of the oldest political parties in the country has actually become one of the worst at politics.

Wow the Farrer by-election results are like witnessing a murder in real time with the Libs copping a breathtaking ~30%+ swing against them so far. That feels past 'nail in a coffin' & instead at 'self administered concrete boots before jumping into a river'. Goddamn that's brutal
