@VoidSpecter001 @Dipdil Kesh came only in 1699. Before that Sikhs didn't keep long hair. Before Guru Gobind, none of the preceding 9 gurus insisted on Sikhs to have kesh or the other 4 items of faith. So it is not compulsory to have kesh to be called a Sikh.

Guru Nanak dev ji wore Janeu as part of Hindu family dwij traditions. Proof: All major traditional Janamsakhis like Mahima parkash written by Saroop das Bhalla (a descendant of 3rd Guru), Gyan Ratnavali, Bala wali janamsakhi, janamsakhi by Meharban sodhi (nephew of 5th Guru).
