All Crew Members of U.S. KC-135 Loss in Iraq Confirmed Deceased TAMPA, Fla. – All six crew members aboard a U.S. KC-135 refueling aircraft that went down in western Iraq are now confirmed deceased. The aircraft was lost while flying over friendly airspace March 12 during Operation Epic Fury. The circumstances of the incident are under investigation. However, the loss of the aircraft was not due to hostile fire or friendly fire. The identities of the service members are being withheld until 24 hours after next of kin have been notified.

Several others sustained minor shrapnel injuries and concussions — and are in the process of being returned to duty. Major combat operations continue and our response effort is ongoing. The situation is fluid, so out of respect for the families, we will withhold additional information, including the identities of our fallen warriors, until 24 hours after next of kin have been notified.

Three years ago, Charleston County Council had a simple opportunity: honor George Washington as the Father of Our Country. Instead, when a few members of council objected to that very phrase, some Republicans folded. The original resolution recognizing Washington’s 1791 visit to Charleston — and properly calling him the Father of Our Country — failed. After public backlash, a watered-down version was passed. The key language was stripped out. The bold history was replaced with generic political fluff. Less about Washington. More about covering political bases. That’s not leadership. This week, I introduced a resolution at the South Carolina State House honoring George Washington the right way — commemorating his February 22nd birthday and his 1791 tour through our Palmetto State. And here’s the difference: At the State House, members of both parties are standing together to recognize the Father of Our Country. All 124 members of the State House, from both parties, are co-sponsoring my resolution. See here: scstatehouse.gov/sess126_2025-2… If someone won’t stand firm when George Washington is called woke in Charleston, how can we expect them to stand firm in Washington, D.C.?

South Carolina families should NOT be forced to subsidize billion-dollar data centers. As President @realDonaldTrump made clear in his State of the Union address, America must lead in innovation — but we must do it responsibly. I’m working in the Statehouse, across party lines, to put safeguards in place to protect ratepayers from footing the bill for massive new energy demand. If data centers want to build here, they should be allowed to generate their own required on-site power — and put excess energy back onto the grid to strengthen it, not strain it. That’s a true, win-win relationship! We will always protect ratepayers and local communities. That’s non-negotiable.
