Just released one of the many tools I developed while working on Sandbox City. This one is called Efficient UI and it helps you optimize Overdraw and Raycasts in your Unity UI by visualizing overlaps directly in the Scene View. Link in the reply below. #unity3d #unity #gamedev

@trash_impostor I think you're doing great, don't let anyone put you down. I've always been interested in sand simulation like this. Care to point to some resources that were helpful to you? I want to make a shell finding game :)

Feel free to tell me off. I do view some of the AI hate as momentum from hating crypto, which by and large was an overhyped and pointless way to kill the environment, with some real usage here and there.

To new followers, I want to be clear: I'm vibe coding this sandcastle thing. Totally get it if that's not your thing. I've been programming for 20 years, but have little free time. I started this 2 weeks ago. It probably would have taken me years otherwise. More thoughts 🧵

@PlayingInCanvas Really cool stuff, just stumbled upon this when researching claw+mic setups on mac mini. Is this "Mimora" 3d avatar something you've released or just using privately? Thanks for the details you've provided, in any case.

Next day I decided he needed a face. Built Mimora: a 3D avatar with human expressions. Listening, thinking, happy. It's a browser extension anyone can connect to their OpenClaw bot. When Niko responds on Discord, or anywhere, his face reacts in real time. x.com/PlayingInCanva…
Leonidas Maliokas@PlayingInCanvas

Also works with OpenClaw 🦀: Discord, WhatsApp, Telegram, and more. Pops out to PiP so it floats anywhere. No browser tab needed.

On January 29th I gave an AI agent access to a Mac, my Discord, and to my project folder. A few days later he deployed my game to production while I watched from my phone on the balcony. This is what happened.

@gdechichi @unity You didn’t even realize that Burst doesn’t work on web before posting your comparison. The post you’re replying to is wrong but so are you with your speedup claims in your original post. Your comment after you realized that and tested against il2cpp build was better.

every time, with no exception, that I post a comparison against @unity I get this more features do not excuse bad performance. Unity is slow because they wrote slow code.
The Coinening@thecoinening

@gdechichi @unity Right, it's a physics engine, with add-ons. You lose performance as you add features. Just the way it is. I was just wondering why the comparison. Unity has way more features, so it's going to be slower. But I get it now. This is an ad. Sorry I didn't realize that.

@VoxelBoy Oh please, don't draw the ignorant card. It's a glorified gambling machine, this morning I saw Meta announce their new Live AI and the thing instantly broke. It was glorious, I love to see it

It's silly to see procedurally generated content called "AI generated slop" because it really isn't. Procedural generation takes skills, generative AI does not.

@KenneyNL That’s like saying I’m going to randomly swing my hammer around and hope for a chainmail. It’s not a gambling machine and you can in fact use it purposefully and put effort into it. It looks like you’re choosing to stay ignorant because you feel you’re taking a moral stand.

a self-described "technical artist that also specializes in [performance work on games]" while also not knowing about Z / HiZ is quite something. absolutely quite something.

@SheriefFYI to be clear im not a render dev, i know about these things but my main goal is to work with artists to get workflows and pipelines up so they dont accidently add in too many draw calls or instructions or do bad practices

@lucasmeijer Have recently read good things about Lovable and played around with it, you could give that a try as well. I keep trying Replit, Bolt, V0, Glitch, ValTown once every few months to see how far each one has come.

The role AI plays in my coding varies greatly: - one side of the spectrum, I write all code, AI is used exclusively as a google/stackoverflow replacement. - vibe side of the spectrum, I don't even read the code. throwaways, one offs, small things. 1/n

@amasad Does Replit Agent have a problem at the moment? The last two days, it has been unable to code in its environment, fails to deploy, and is completely crippled. Am I running into a bug? You can check out the agent chat history of @ylmzkymz/UnityVersionTracker" target="_blank" rel="nofollow noopener">replit.com/@ylmzkymz/Unit…… if it helps.

The reality of building web apps in 2025 is that it's a bit like assembling IKEA furniture. There's no "full-stack" product with batteries included, you have to piece together and configure many individual services: - frontend / backend (e.g. React, Next.js, APIs) - hosting (cdn, https, domains, autoscaling) - database - authentication (custom, social logins) - blob storage (file uploads, urls, cdn-backed) - email - payments - background jobs - analytics - monitoring - dev tools (CI/CD, staging) - secrets - ... I'm relatively new to modern web dev and find the above a bit overwhelming, e.g. I'm embarrassed to share it took me ~3 hours the other day to create and configure a supabase with a vercel app and resolve a few errors. The second you stray just slightly from the "getting started" tutorial in the docs you're suddenly in the wilderness. It's not even code, it's... configurations, plumbing, orchestration, workflows, best practices. A lot of glory will go to whoever figures out how to make it accessible and "just work" out of the box, for both humans and, increasingly and especially, AIs.

@BenSimsTech @SebAaltonen Also, with your custom render pipeline, how easy would you say it is to exceed URP performance if what’s being used are the most basic features such as Lit shader + lightmaps? Is there a lot of cruft in URP that causes overhead in your opinion?

@VoxelBoy @SebAaltonen This is a custom pipeline though. You'll need a decent amount of graphics code/shaders to get it working, will be very hard to retrofit into HDRP, might be feasible in URP/BiRP. I'm still working on it, may switch to octmaps instead of cubemaps. Unity is still very behind with GI

Indoor scenes in HypeHype are starting to look acceptable. This has no baked lighting. Only a single oct-map (conv.mips) for indirect specular and diffuse, masked with screen space AO (GTAO). No sunlight and no local lights (local lights are coming in a few months). Game by Allu

@BenSimsTech @SebAaltonen Interesting. My use cases need to work on lowend mobile and webgl as well so I wouldn’t be able to go with deferred. I’m almost certain Unity’s deferred implementation is too heavy for lowend mobile, unlike Seb’s.
