Yesterday marked the 30th anniversary of the Twister motion picture release. I was the original technical consultant for the film and supplied the tornado image used for the poster and marketing. I put the money I made from the rights sale away, and ironically, 30 years later I’m finally using those funds to help pay for my PhD in documentary photography. This is a massive and growing problem for American national security. Unbelievable amounts of sensitive and classified information is captured, scraped, and sent back to foreign nations. And users have no idea. Nobody expects that their TV or monitor is a surveillance tool. When I have joked that Smart TVs should be illegal, I am only half-joking.
