A Gallup poll found that seven out of 10 Americans said they would oppose a data center being built near them.
Opposition is so intense, the poll found, that more Americans would rather live near a nuclear power plant than a data center. wapo.st/48ZtSpE
@DemzDeliver Going to have a lot of buildings like 161 Maiden Lane.
Plus they're probably rent controlled, which always fails.
Everything Ive seen him do just kicks the can down the road for the next guy - what are the chances hes doing the same again.
🚨 NEW: Mayor Mamdani just launched a sweeping affordable housing reform package to speed up housing production.
Experts project that this will reduce build times by as much as 2 years.
@Rovvly_B@Pirat_Nation Yeah it's a lot easier for them to be profitable. They don't answer to shareholders and much lower staff count. So it's crazy efficient compared to other gaming companies.
A Hungarian Steam fan was pretty mad when his brand-new Steam Controller got mistakenly shipped to the UK instead of his home.
After he reached out to support, Valve quickly apologized, explained that the mix-up had hit only a small batch of packages, and rushed to fix the delivery.
To make up for the hassle, they let him pick any standard Steam game he wanted.
He chose Forza Horizon 6 (worth around 70€) and now he’s a lifelong Valve fan.
@WUN_Million Corporate quota jobs. Board of directors or customers demand a certain number of x positions to be filled whether needed or not. Whether it be engineers, or just hiring x number of people from a protected class. Skews retention/employment data on purpose.
@LennyUSMC@Howlingmutant0 its same spiel as before,
"learn to code"
"learn a trade"
and now
"learn to ai"
We will never reach out of reasons to fire the average joe without a counter monopoly on the side of the average joe, i.e. union of workers, average joe, class consciousness
@VulpineLune@Howlingmutant0 They don’t own the mom and pop shops and the businesses that are owned by black rock are working to get rid of low level workers like burger flippers and the checker at the grocery store as it is. Want to make more money, learn a trade.
@AronMclellan@Humannoyed_b@BernieSanders Practice and observe everything they tell you, but do not do as they do; for they preach, but do not practice.
—Matthew 23:3
@AronMclellan@Humannoyed_b@BernieSanders do as he says not as he does? just cause someones a alcoholic wife beater doesnt mean we reject it when he says to not drink and beat wives?
Amazon cut 30,000 jobs & got a $7.8 billion tax break
Meta cut 8,000 jobs & got an $8 billion tax break
PayPal cut 4,800 jobs & paid $0 in federal income taxes
Disney cut 1,000 jobs & paid $0 in federal income taxes
Corporate tax breaks don't create jobs. They enrich the 1%.
"Wow, superiority complex much?"
Have you fucking SEEN the average person, especially in recent years? I'm a fucking dork-ass loser and I'm still better than 80-90% of humanity
@DerrickEvans4WV Surveillance isn't going anywhere because it is built into every computer, car, telephone, smart appliance, etc. Unless you want to smash every piece of modern electronics, the best plan now is to keep building data centers so we can stay ahead on AI.
@Graeber_social 200 years ago you died earlier. There were no air conditioned offices where you could push papers. You probably did not travel very far from where you were born
Tell me how much better that is.
Learn to cope. Think positive not negative. Realize how good you have it.
No, it’s not ‘normal’ for humans to be in competition all the time.
It’s not normal to work for most of your waking hours of the day.
It’s not normal to be stressed 24/7.
Stop taking a few hundred years of capitalism and pretending that’s just how being human is. It’s not.
@Howlingmutant0 I think the business should pay whatever they want to pay their workers. Don’t pay enough and you won’t have any workers at all. Let the market decide.
