We were sorry to hear of the passing of Jeane Freeman at the weekend. She played a pivotal role in the creation of Social Security Scotland and was passionate about placing dignity, fairness and respect at the heart of everything we do. x.com/scotgov/status…

It's even better when you realise this was before Jeane had joined the SNP and was doing grassroots organising for WFI and the Indy movement.

@JennyAThatcher For all the stories about the Gorbals that could bring a tear to a glass eye, it's given me an abundance of grit that's done me well. As my mum would say "don't forget your arse".

My dad grew up in extreme poverty in tenement slums of the Gorbals in Glasgow, & self-educated as Marxist. He taught me from an early age that social class hierarchy, steeped in exploitation & inequality, was not something to feel insecure of, it was something to be angry about.

@Vvfabs Did you ever get any funding for that research? My father was in prison in the 90s. We're so poor I couldn't afford a birthday present for him, so I sent a mixed tape of me, my sister & friend signing Mariah Carey & Whitney Houston song. He told my mum he cried listening to it.

It was the snickering and side eye glances, of when I discussed this idea, that will never leave me.

In 2016 I put together a proposal for a postdoc. I wanted to research social class aesthetics & beauty treatments. My idea was to explore this in three geographical cities in England – London, Manchester & Newcastle.

I voted for the Right to Addiction Recovery (Scotland) Bill today, alongside my Scottish Labour colleagues. It’s shameful this Bill was voted down, denying MSPs the opportunity to amend and test the Bill at later stages. Meanwhile our friends and loved ones die. A dark day.

I need to share this experience we had as it is absolutely out of order. Yesterday I was at the @RangersFC V Club Brugge game with the kids and this happened. Around 20 minutes into the game, my 11-year-old daughter quietly told me that she had started her period and didn’t have any sanitary products with her she also attended the bathroom in the stadium which didn’t have any suitable sanitary products available for a young girl. Naturally, I got the children together and prepared to leave the stadium briefly to go to a shop, get her what she needed, and return to watch the rest of the game. I approached a female member of the security team, explained the situation clearly and respectfully, and asked if I would be able to return once I had taken care of my daughter. I was told that if I left, I would not be allowed back in. I was absolutely shocked by this response, particularly given the sensitive nature of the issue and the amount I had paid for the tickets. Of course, I couldn’t keep my daughter waiting or embarrass her further, so we all left the stadium to get her sorted. When we attempted to return, we were refused entry and ultimately missed the rest of the game. I am extremely disappointed by how this situation was handled, especially as I had explained it clearly to a female security staff member. I feel the lack of understanding and compassion was unacceptable, and I am left feeling both let down and frustrated although the money isn’t my main concern it’s still disgraceful that my family spends hundreds of pounds on tickets. I hope this message will be seen by someone from the club who will in turn take this up with the security provider and myself as I know rangers would never condone this treatment of a young girl in this situation. Does anyone know which company provides the security on match-days I should of took note at the time but I obviously was more concerned with making sure my daughter was okay, I would like to tag them directly and contact them, if anyone can put me in touch I would be grateful.

Hi Everyone 🙂 ANNOUNCEMENT: For sometime now I have had news that I could not share: Howvever I feel its correct to ANNOUNCE that I have secured a FULLTIME/PERMANENT job with a Council outwith the Inverclyde area. 🙂 This is really good for me, and its good for my various conditions. ROUTINE is a huge part of my life, and as I always goal set and like to plan out my future when I can. As I look to obtain and gain new skills, experience and knowledge. It would be remiss of me not to THANK, all the schools that I have been working alongside, and also the Social work department, Justice system, pupils and attendee`s to my Boxing. Obviously this comes as progession for myself, but at the sametime I am very aware of those that I have made friends with, and those I care about. On a personal note: I wish to thank EVERY SCHOOL I have had the honour of working within. Those that helped/supported me, Thank you 🙏💚 For all the pupils I have had input into their lives, I will always be about in some capacity. PLEASE stay out of trouble,and keep working hard to achieve what YOU need to💪Rhys is your friend, and I THANK YOU for trusting me 👌 I have passed all the various checks with this Council I will work for. My role 🙂 Well it will be HELPING people 🙏 Thats what i enjoy, helping and supporting folk. For any parents out there, thats kids have medical conditions or disabilities. Lets never compare,and lets see if we can all support and encourage people to push themsleves, and live a happy life. I am 24 years old, and I have ambition and drive to try and improve my knowledge and life experiences. For anyone that this will affect negatively: I am SORRY that I will be with a Council outwith Inverclyde, but I have to look after my own self sometimes. I know you will understand, I hope so anyway. 🙏 Finally, I am just Rhys from the East End of Greenock. All I do is try and keep moving forward, and to try and influence people positively. CHANGE is a big thing for me, Routine is a massive part of my life. This new role will afford me new skillsets, new friends, stability, routine, and more time for my own fitness levels. TO EVERYONE that has been INVOLVED with my Boxing programme. I am so grateful, and so torn about all of this! I am going to miss you ALL, I really mean this from the bottom of my heart.
