@Chiron95p @texaslindsay @DrAngela4Health Elevated platelets are a very common finding in iron deficiency. In fact, my friends who are hematologists (I’m a cardiologist) recommend checking iron studies as the first step in evaluating elevated platelets.
English

@texaslindsay @DrAngela4Health Your platelets are high. See another doctor and then another if necessary.

For the first time in my life my bloodwork came back irregular, so I got it done a 2nd time a couple weeks later only to receive the same results.
Despite being on the KETO diet & consuming red meat daily—my lab work showed I’m iron deficient.
So my doctor called in a prescription for me. However, my pharmacy sent me a notification saying the prescription my doctor sent had been canceled without ever contacting me to explain why.
So I went to the pharmacy & was told my insurance (United Healthcare: @UHC) needed an explanation from my doctor before they would agree to cover it. Then, after they spoke with my doctor, the insurance company declined to cover it.
So I asked the pharmacist how much it would cost out of pocket—and was told $700-$900/a month.
She then said I should go back to my doctor and request a different medication and restart the whole process again.
Since I have some of the top doctors in the world following me here—I’d rather ask for their input on what they might recommend instead.
And if anyone else has had success in treating an iron deficiency, I’d love to hear from you as well.
I recently started taking Grass Fed Beef Liver along with Vitamin C, but would love to hear what else you might recommend.

@FrankLuntz Most of Fox News is saying that Trump lost (and lost badly) tonight
English

My phone and my X mentions are being flooded by Trump supporters complaining about the debate.
I think they know he's losing. #Debate2024

@pjamiesonkay @generalorthomd @UHC Amen, Brother! We have the same garbage 2 week wait sometimes with Cath and echo.
English

Why is @UHC Medicare Advantage allowed to harm Medicare patients by delaying a hip replacement - for someone in so much pain they’ve become wheelchair bound - 2 weeks for prior authorization when a hip replacement is a covered service under Medicare?

To drive your Uber or bring your Instacart delivery, Priscila Barbosa had to be, well, you. (so did 100's of her customers.)
A wild tale from the queen of a shadow gig economy, an identity thief within the US immigration stalemate, my latest @wired

@FondOfBeetles @Bornawoman99 @jeremykauffman The correct answer should be (I did engineering and premed) is that you can’t calculate due to missing data. Long story short, this question is just testing if students know the difference between specificity and positive predictive value.
English

@FondOfBeetles @Bornawoman99 @jeremykauffman 1.98% if you have no false negatives (sensitivity of 100%)
1% with a sensitivity of 50%.
The point is, if you were testing something with a prevalence that low, you need to have a better test or else you’re just wasting money and causing unnecessary worry and may harm
English

@DrSiyabMD You can’t accurately calculate deposits of predictive value here without knowing the sensitivity of the test. All they gave you here is the specificity and the prevalence.
If you make the giant leap of faith at the sensitivity is 100% percent, then PPV would be 1.98%

Day in the life of an #ACHD cardiologist...
Scene: in hosp, lovely VSD Eisenmenger pt followed for many years:
Consultant: shall we close her VSD? We have referred her to structural.
ACHD: no
Consultant: why not?
ACHD: because she would die

@LynnBeardsley @EM_RESUS To clarify - do you mean that Pharma should not be allowed "direct-to-consumer" ads, or do you mean all advertising in all its forms?
English

@EM_RESUS Pharmaceuticals should not be allowed to advertise.
English

@EM_RESUS Our modern medical system and its focus on mechanistic explanations is outdated and the market is ready doctors who think in terms of energy, frequency and vibration.

So now that @ABIMcert has notified all the US hospitals that physicians have not paid their hyperinflated MOC fees and “decertified” them before their certs expired, we should step back and ask some serious questions regarding this organization. 🧵
English

@lovemyAthletics @Acyn You would honestly think his lawyers would tell him to stop tacitly admitting that what he did was illegal.
English

@chandan_khandai @jbcarmody Yes Advanced Heart Failure/Transplant not only earns less $$$ than other sub specialties; it also earns significantly less than GENERAL cardiology, which doesn’t require more than the standard 3 year fellowship. ACHD has the same problem (arg. even worse because 2 yr fellowship
English

@jbcarmody Does AHF/TC make less money than other sub-subspecialties? We can’t ignore the impact of income potential on trainees who’ve by then spent a decade in school
English

@adventinthought @JonahDispatch Suddenly I wish X had a “laugh” reaction!
English

@JonahDispatch It's not stupid. In addition to being a great president, Trump is also a world-class physicist. He's like a modern day Leonardo da Vinci. He can do it all. MAGA!
English

I’m not disputing this is stupid. But I’m confused about what idea he’s mangling here. Is there something about magnets and water that he’s mangling I don’t know about?
Acyn@Acyn
Trump: All I know about magnets is this, give me a glass of water, let me drop it on the magnets, that’s the end of the magnets
