@Jon_Mackenzie @Slasherrrr I get the point about dropping the FBs or going 3diamond For me it’s just that when those tweaks happen before City even press to stop the wingers jumping inside, Pep has already shaped the phase. At that point the diamond isn’t giving the wide access needed to avoid being boxed.

@WBellhem @Slasherrrr Ftr this is exactly the solution that Guardiola found against this approach at the beginning of the 2024/25 season. You can also form the diamond through inverting a FB and going 3diamond3 if you want.

Not sure this works with Raya as, surely, he can hit this chap or go longer into the gaps behind if, say, the full-backs push on. Can the respective midfielder pull wide? Then there is a MF on his own in the middle. Feels like a man short somewhere. Hmmm… 🤔

I’m an analytical manager, his underlying data is strong and he has plenty of routes to points. I also knew I’d be in the vast minority making that move because most people don’t want to take such a big bet, even when it’s +EV, so it was a play with +EV and +Risk. Overall this season I haven’t been making high risk plays, but I liked this one. Salah was the best captain this week and next, especially considering Haaland’s fixture is sandwiched between two UCL games against Madrid. I have the rare opportunity to achieve another top 500, so I went for it.
